You must be using dns ad blocking on your dns server or router

Many things cause battery drain. I'm posting this not to criticize anyone but rather because I don't want people chasing a ghost thinking this is their issue when it's not.

I know it's BBM (that I've never used) , you only have to check battery monitor to see that it's the culprit.

So what are you guys using for dns ad blocking on your Wifi network? If the answer is "nothing" or "what do you mean" then I can assure you this is not the same issue I identified in my first post. Just trying to help

Ya, the people with the issue can see 48 hours of battery and CPU use per application. It's BBM.

Everyone please read the thread. I don't think most of you have this same confirmed bug causing your BBM related battery issues.

Now i'm not trying to be a jerk but PLEASE READ. I don't want you thinking this bug is your problem and later being upset that when the new BBM version comes out it doesn't fix it. If you read the thread you will see the specific circumstances that cause this particular issue. I bet 80% of you coming here thinking you have this problem don't and it's because you didn't read.

That being said if you have general battery problems and think they may be related to bbm please start a new thread. This thread is for a very specific bug that Blackberry confirmed and is working on a fix for... it's done and over with and no amount of "me too" even if your right is going to help.

You can turn off BBM through parental controls.

Mixpanel is a legitimate analytics company that many devs and companies use to get insight into what users use or do not use in a web or mobile application.

I don't know what BBM would be transmitting exactly, but based on my usage with Mixpanel in the past I would say it's mostly tracking info about unused features. They can use that info to either scrap a feature or make it more visible to encourage usage.

    Hi,

I have the exact same issue. Battery drain, high CPU and lots of data usage but only when BBM app is open (either in background or foreground). Running a packet sniffer on my router confirms that BBM tries to connect to api.mixpanel.com:443 over and over again. This resulted in consuming my monthly data allowance and 26GB! of data on WIFI. I do not use a blocking DNS server. On the BB device I can open api.mixpanel.com so it's not that the BB cannot connect.

You tested https://api.mixpanel.com from the native browser ?

The issue was reported on BlackBerry JIRA quite some time ago under the ref : BBTEN-2751 (with all the data available, from screenshots to wireshark logs).

I've read the details of that ticket and I'm disappointed that they've been saying "it has been fixed and should be in the next release" since January, whereas it is now clear that in September it is still not resolved.

I also don't think it's as narrow of an issue as they make it sound. I get this problem whether I'm on wifi or cell data, and I find that more often than not it seems to be relating to how weak the data connection strength is rather than what type of connection I'm on.

Thing is, I have 4 Z30s in my household and only 1 is having this problem. We all have the same weak wifi in the same spots, and we share the same cell carrier with the same data coverage. Why would it only be impacting 1 of 4 phones?

That looks like a different issue because BBM isn't even on the top 5 list of battery eating processes.
