I think this is happening to me too. I'm a teacher and only use the school wifi during the day, as my cell service is non existent inside the building. Here is my device monitor today. This needs to be fixed asap.

Just an FYI. After reading other posts on this thread about the bbm shop, I haven't used it, went into it accidentally, nor have I sent or received any stickers. So I'm not sure what else could be the cause. The weird thing is, some days I will be fine at work, and there will be no battery drain.

I have a guy at work where his iPhone 5 will drain in about 3 hours...gets crazy hot too.

    Deleted BBM...all good

We tried again today, thought if we disabled wifi, and any other setting that may help. Rebooted phone and no issue, for about 2 hours then bang...his phone went dead in an hour.

Suffice to say he deleted it again...

He is a Team Lead and I am really pushing the use of groups with all staff, he needs to be on this.

Any others see issue with iPhones? My wife never had an issue, it works fine on my iPad...another staff member with a iPhone 5 has no issues.

He is getting a 6+ soon so will try again on that but this has been frustrating.

I did see a sharp increase in battery usage by BBM. Even after I stopped using the device (left BBM in an active frame) to the point that it killed my battery when normally leaving it idle would be fine. I didn't see any unusual activity on my DNS servers but I can't install wireshark either and was just using the Windows resource monitor, which might not reflect the activity accurately. My Passport is running OS version 10.3.0.1418.

Rockin a Passport and Z30! Two devices are better than 1!
Go to device monitor and look under the BBM process at the wifi usage. Do you see 100mb or ore both in and out by BBM within a 1 hour period or so?

Looks like it could be the same issue. Does it only happen when your on WiFI at school?
Please do me a favor and open device monitor and then click BBM (just like in the picture about)
Scroll down and look at wifi usage for BBM. Do you see several hundred mb of data?

I would LOVE to be able to test this issue on an iPhone! I may try to borrow one from one of my clients. Wouldn't it be wild if this is a cross platform bug?

Yes I have a specific period during the test where Battery usage, CPU usage and wifi usage shot up until the phone died. All have been normal today despite having BBM running after having returned DNS to normal.

Interesting. That thread I posted suggested turning off BBM via parental controls.

Had to use search to find it though. Where is it buried in settings?

Thanks for all your hard work on this. It has however happened to two members of my family while not being connected to wifi and one who noticed his battery draining and then put his Z30 in airplane mode only to watch the drain continue. Device monitor put the blame squarely on the shoulders of BBM.

I never have and never will use BBM so it's never even running. Still get the bad drain caused by BBM.

Happens quite often (since last June), normally when I've been in a bad reception area for a while.

Let's hope a new version of 10.3.1 fixes it.

It happens on my z30 sporadically. A restart cures it but comes again every few weeks. Irritating as I have never used BBM and have no intention of ever doing so!

I'm seeing a lot of people claim to have this issue too just because they have battery drain. Likely for you that's not the case. As you can see from my first post and subsequent testing, there are very specific circumstances that cause this issue.

You must be using dns ad blocking on your dns server or router

You must have the BBM app open or be using BBM. This issue triggers when you send a sticker or do anything in shop especially. It also happens if you tap a sticker someone sends you.

This issue is with the BBM app and that has been confirmed by blackberry engineers. It has nothing to do with the 10.3.1 update that's coming and will not be fixed in that update until BBM is updated

Many things cause battery drain. I'm posting this not to criticize anyone but rather because I don't want people chasing a ghost thinking this is their issue when it's not.
