I think it's cool that Kanye has been seen with a BB in public, absolutely...

As for an endorsement deal, that gets tricky. There's a science behind picking the "right" people to associate your brand with. Kanye is brilliant, sure, (just ask him ), but using him as a brand spokesman could wind up alienating just as many potential customers as it could attract. Same would go for Bieber. I'm personally wary of anyone who'd knock up a Kardashian (just sayin'...)

If they could land, say, Beyonce (with or without Jay-Z), that would be WAAAAAY better, since she's got broad public appeal and little if any "baggage". The trouble here is, I think most people assume that if you throw enough money at any celebrity that you can get them to say anything you want, but the smart celebs are very careful in selecting their brand associations and coming on board with BlackBerry right now represents a huge risk.

I actually thought that Alicia Keys was a pretty good choice for BlackBerry. She's classy and smart and I thought she represented a good personality to go with the brand. The biggest downsides to her are that it's been a few years since she had a major hit (and her "Girl on Fire" album didn't exactly, um, set fire to the charts), and I think many found her kind of bland.

Advertising is a niche market. She still has a huge following, album or not. I do think celebrity endorsements are a good way to brand the phone.
