Simple question, if Blackberry / Windows / iOS / Android ALL had every app available, native, who would rank where and why?

    Me thinks:

    1) Android
    2) BB10
    3) iOS
    4) Windows

Android offers more than just apps, offers a playground for developers to push the boundaries, and with high specs at their arsenal, they can really push what an app can do. It also offers USB OTG and many other things the others are closed off from. Vast majority of smartphone users are consumers over enterprise, so are not security conscious when making purchases, heck the amount of people I see openly entering their PINs at cash points is a joke lol 2948

I'll echo that. I personally see Android as being the leader due to customization, only and only if every app was on every platform.

I still think they would have the same problem but not the extent as is now. It's all about BB10 software and making people aware of what it can do better than iOS and Android. Slow updates don't help along with leaks of future updates that people feel should have been baked from the beginning not wait 6-8 months for release through carriers.

I think iOS, actually: for the masses who are not technically sophisticated, iOS is pretty, simple and does what it's supposed to do... terribly and in a annoying way for people like me. I mean, I watch these Star Trek cast interviews where the actors say "I'd never seen star trek before..." and I think "what rock have you been 'actressing' under?" but then I realize that the "civilians" just aren't equipped to deal with science, or fiction, or science fiction.

I think entropy would set in with Android eventually, and while BB10 gestures have a bit of a learning curve about them, if you shoved an iPad infront of someone who didn't know what a touchscreen was, just about all they'd be able to do is launch apps and stare at them (i.e. if they didn't know what swipe gestures were, what would they be able to do? Not a whole lot). Once you know BB10's relatively modest 5-10 gestures, going back to iOS or Android is nothing short of irritating, to me, and I really don't think they're all that difficult to figure out: my non-technical niece just FLYS around her Q10. It makes me realize how old I've gotten and how my reflexes and cognitive processes must be slowing down. Anyone got some Scalosian water? (We're on a Star Trek theme today!)

Windows Phone might be up there with iOS, because it's pretty simple, but gesture-wise, it's between BlackBerry in complexity and iOS in simplicity: I still find myself getting confused by Windows Phone... some of the UX standards are... "inconsistent"... it's strange: Like porn, you know what it is when you see it... with Windows Phone, I know something's wrong when I use it, but I'm not sure how to define what's wrong with it.

    So:

    iOS
    BB10
    Windows Phone
    Entropic Android

Ios would still have the edge in hardware accessories and devices... stuff from cases, all the way to MIDI instruments and medical equipment. If BlackBerry finally had app parity, then they could comfortably call themselves third place. Android would still be more popular due to pricing and ubiquity

I totally disagree. I say it'd go like this...

    Android
    iOS
    WP
    BB10

At least for right now. IMO Android will always remain number 1 simply because it's open and easy to put onto almost any device. Also, it doesn't matter if it's low end or high end, Android will work just fine on it. It also appeals to general users and techies alike. I put iOS as number 2 because it's easy to use, simple, and has that dreaded Apple coolness factor that iSheep go crazy for. WP is third because it's another solid and easy to use OS that's available on a variety of devices from multiple manufacturers. BlackBerry is fourth not because it's the worst, but because people still see BlackBerry as the company they were 5 years ago, and as the phone that they use for work and not play.

HOWEVER, in an ideal world I'd like to see that change. I think it SHOULD be...

    Android
    BB10
    WP
    iOS

I think that Android should be number one because it can be changed an appeals to a huge market on a variety of devices. I'm also a huge support of open ecosystems. BlackBerry of course is second because it's an awesome platform for productivity and play. The hardware's great too, and I'm all for supporting a Canadian company. WP I put as third, it's also an excellent OS with lots of devices. And iOS is last because, well, it's just not good and I hate Apple as a company

LOL @ Mike. Legacy Palm did have a ton of apps.

One point that I think should be considered: assuming app gaps were non-existent, I think the ecosystem battle moves to accessories and peripherals. You know... inter-connectivity.

I would disagree. Sure, WE care about customization but most people really don't. I think Apple would still be number 1. It appeals to the largest percentage of the population (those who don't care to learn something new, they just go for the 'easiest' to use).

For that same reason I would put BB over Android. Android has too many manufacturers, mucking up the works with their custom this/that over top of Android. BB is the best middle ground between the two IMO.

Yeh that's what I was trying to get at, beyond apps, how else can each OS differentiate it self, and I think Android and Apple are leading the way in terms of inter-connectivity whereby devices talk to each other, cloud services, email, music, calendars all just sing together.

It kind of puts in to perspective HOW far Blackberry has to go to win over the masses. Even after native Skype, Netflix, Instagram, *insert native app name here*, BB would still be 3rd or 4th potentially.

So I wonder if Blackberry are aware of this and there's actual substance behind "mobile computing", or is it a term that's to get thrown around for ages because believe me, Apple will get tired and just come out with something that will blow sh!t out the water again, and Thorsten will stand up on stage and say... "oh yeh, that's what we've been talking about all along, that new thing that Apple has? Well yeh, we lead the way in this mobile computing thing, but it's coming soon in 10.6"
