Whenever I open a Contact on my Z30, the details give me an option for texting any of the phone numbers I have for that contact, even land-lines and fax numbers. Likewise, when I initiate a text by typing in the recipient's name, I have to choose from all of the numbers I have stored for that recipient.
Is there any way to restrict the texting option to cellphone numbers in the Contacts app?

No there isn't unfortunately.
I think it should filter out Fax numbers but not the others. There are 2 reasons I say not the others. First is that there services out there where you can actually send a text to a landline. But more importantly users may have the wrong phone number type and this would frustrate or confuse people when they tried to send a Text. Also a user might choose a type like Home or Work for a contact who has multiple cell phones.
