This has worked for me in Qatar using Internet Explorer either without or with SIM card. Make sure the phone is off when you click the "Check Update" via web in the link BlackBerry - Software Updates - New Update Software for BlackBerry Smartphones - US and power on the phone when it is asking for a PIN. As soon as it detects the phone and shows the PIN click OK and then voila it will process the update just wait between 60 to 100 seconds. When you see the LED turns into GREEN that's when it shows an update and just follow the online instructions. Just make backup before doing this things so you can restore afterwards all your contents.

Managed to update my STL 100-2 without any uk sim card ( had my US T-mobile one in when i did it ) but with alot of effort...

First of all you need Firefox browser.
Switch off the phone. Disconnect it from the pc.
then you need to go to : BlackBerry - Software Updates - New Update Software for BlackBerry Smartphones - US
there is a Blue update button.press it.
connect with a usb cable your Z10 asap while you turn it on.
If the browser recognizes the PIN while the phone is booting ( blue logo ) you are in good shape it will work !
if not then rinse and repeat. took me about 45 minutes all together but its done.

Make sure you backup cause the installation of the software wipes out the device. Your bbm contacts are saved on the blackberry server and if you keep a gmail account all your contacts are saved too on the google servers but its best if you backup on the Blackberry link. if you have issues with blackberry link just delete some or all of your apps ( they will be deleted anyway with the update ) and you can restore them on blackberry world under "my apps"

After trying it a very few times it actually worked im updated now as well

To all where it doesnt seem to work, try again, try different browser (on chrome update button doesnt appear at all even)

Reboot system, restart device, unset the password on the blackberry.

Tried all that and suddenly it jumped and said available.

I'm pretty sure if you get your hands on a Vodafone SIM card it should work no different than mine being in Saudi Arabia. On a side note, I was in Bahrain this weekend and no matter what I attempted doing my Z10 couldn't get any sort of Data for the entire day. My 9970 however, did.

I live in Singapore, use a Singtel SIM card .....but purchased my unlocked Z10 in Dubai. The software on the same is 10.0.9.2372.
I am unable to update the same to the latest software which allows me to download Whatsapp.

I went to the Blackberry service center in Singapore today and they were totally unhelpful. I am told since I purchased the phone in Dubai, it can't be updated in Singapore which is absolutely absurd for a global phone and a global software update.

That step worked fine here with an STL100-2 model in Bahrain! Actually the phone doesn't need to be turned off, I have done the update while it was on but the program shut it down automatically for me and continued with the instructions to the update. The green LED indicator turned on without a confimation message saying that I gotta hold the power button for 10 mins and then have to click on Continue blah blah, viola... I just got the .90 update which is the latest!

I'm really excited about this though I'm hoping that we could update OTA in the future.

People need to realize that the update is usually carrier approved which is why people can use SIM cards of Carriers to upgrade to an approved higher OS version than currently in the handset. So it's not one version for everyone, please read in the forums as it is discussed before.

Okay guys so I'm from Denmark, and the Z10 hasn't been released here nor has it any updates (obviously).

Therefore I ordered a Vodafone Micro Sim-Card for iPhone 4/4S, Galaxy S3 -PAYG - with Freedom Freebeez | eBay and it updated to the newest OS works perfectly.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. First, if you've read around, there are mainly 2 versions of the Z10 that is being produced: STL100-1 with TI's OMAP cpu and the STL100-2 -3 -4 with Qualcomm's MSM8960 cpu.

So if you flashed with the wrong firmware, your milage will vary to nothing working at all. I've read that someone has tried this something to this effect and that person couldn't launch some apps on his Z10.

I am having the problem while I update my z10 STL100-2 via website and BB Link. Although my z10 is running on 10.0.9.2372, I always see the msgs ("There are no update software available") when I updated it via BB Link software. I got the msgs to download ApploaderWebSL_Upgrade_8.msi when I updated it via Web. So I downloaded this ApploaderWebSL but error msgs occurred that "you haven't permission from server to download". So how can I update my z10. My PC is using Win XP. My country is Myanmar. Thanks.

Hi. I don't live in the middle east though, but in Nigeria, and had a similar problem. I the STL 100-2 from UK, and the version used in Nigeria is the 100-1. I tried updating via web and BB link, but kept getting the "error while trying to download software for your device" message. I popped into this thread and found about the vodafone method, was sad cuz I didn't have a vodafone sim...

You see, I have a Lebara sim, which is an MVNO using Vodafone architecture, a long shot, yes, but worth a try. So i popped in the lebara sim, fired up the wifi, and voila!!! Software update available, downloading as I type. So if any of you has a Lebara sim, u could try it out.

I live in Greece. Yesterday i received my wonderfull Z10 through ebay from u.k.. The model is stl100-2. Here i have to note that bb10 devices are not available to greece yet. So i put my sim card into the phone (my cellphone company is cosmote) and i went to settings and saw that my softaware is 10.0.9.2379. I pushed the button for checking updates and it wrote that my software is up to date (but i knew 10.0.10.99 was released). After reading the thread i am writing to it right now, i put in my z10 a greek vodafone sim (inactive). After i opened the phone and checked for updates, it popped out an 150 mb software update (10.0.10.99). That was it. So i assume that every vodafone sim card (no matter which country) suits. I hope that i helped.

Hi all,

I'm in Vietnam. I got a BB Z10 from UK (STL100-2). I could not get any updates by OTA or blackberry/update link.
Last week, I backed up my Z10, removed SIM card and used Blackberry Link to Reload Device Software. Luckily I got the lastest OS Version 10.0.10.690 and reloaded successfully.

This worked flawlessly for me. Thanks
