I tried wiping my friend's phone (z10 stl100-4) via security wipe, ; it took almost 24hrs to wipe, I don't know if it's a general issue with this os.

    Quite possible.

Usually it takes 20 minutes to a couple of hours.

Using an autoloader is almost always a better option. It wipes the device and loads a fresh OS in just a couple of minutes.

Cfp nuke -a takes about 10-30 seconds if you really want to wipe first

Correct me if I wrong guys, but if there are too many apps / files on device memory, wouldn't it take longer?

The more you have, the longer it takes. Yes.

This funda is very simple. The more files you have on your device memory. More time it takes...

Hope someone will clear my doubt. What actual reload option in link does? Does it download the latest os and after wiping the device reload the fresh os OR existing os( assuming that no update is available) is reloaded even in offline mode? Thanks in advance.
