My Z10 has 2.38 GB free on the device, but it won't let me upgrade as it says I need to free up an ADDITIONAL 1.5GB of space

I don't think I have a crazy amount of apps, and I have already purged a bunch to make some more room. Is it possible to update directly from a PC so that I don't need so much free space on my device?

This issue has been happening a lot recently, with the Q5's more often. have you tried pulling the battery if possible and trying again?

Granted I have more apps than you... but why does my system take up so much space? And CB10 ?

(fyi - I deleted a few more apps to bring my total free space up)

No need to EVER pull the battery on BB10 phones, it's bad advice. Try a hard reset.

Pulling the battery is a solution for legacy BlackBerry devices, not BB10. For BB10, *do not* pull the battery, but rather hold Volume Up and Volume Down simultaneously until the device reboots. Pulling the battery may corrupt the system on BB10.

Ok... I figured out how to clear cache on CB10, browser, and evolution browser... still 807 MB short... arghh.... guess I will need to delete more apps. I wish I knew why my system takes up almost double the storage space as CountryboiShawn.

Oh my! , well yes this is a new thing I wasn't aware of in BlackBerry 10. wow i'm still learning new things all the time about this OS. They should of put this tip in the manual when you buy the phones. something as important as this. I had no idea it could corrupt my system. nothing bad has happened to mine but now that I know I'll stop doing that. (not that I've had to do it often) but thanks

The apps that are taking the most space probably have caches or files that are local to them. See if there are clear cache settings and files that you can only see within the app that can be removed.

Playing with the file manager you can select a folder and check its property to "see" how much space each folder is consuming. In my case i erase a whole bunch of "junks" from viber, games and even screen shots that i usually take and got back more than 1GB.

Do note though that MISC include the external_sd's capacity in its storage computation, so either you take out your sd card or do some manual computation

Why couldn't Blackberry just offer the option to use the SD card for OTA? It would save people having to delete apps they actually want just to fill up the crazy amount of space required.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with pulling the battery on a BB10 phone. It cannot corrupt your data as long as you shut your device off first. Supposedly it is the same thing as the volume button hard reset. I do a battery pull reset every month or two.

There has not been any official communication from Blackberry advising against battery pulls

I'm referring to the old legacy BB method of pulling out the battery *while* the device is on and frozen; that was the old fix that everyone got accustomed to with BB devices.

Of course if you power down first and remove the battery, it'll be fine.

Why are you pulling the battery every month or two if the hard reset with the volume buttons do the same thing? Perhaps conditioning with legacy devices? It's not necessary anymore.

I deleted everything I could and figured there was probably a lot of space used up by Android workspace files so I just backed up and did a wipe.
