Hi CBsters, can anyone instruct me on how can I remove permanently the Android runtime? I don't run android apps on my device, hence, I think it will be better if I uninstall it, I'd rather have the resources to be used somewhere else from my BlackBerry.

I remember it during the 10.2.0 that android runtime was found in the BlackBerry World, but now I can't seem to find it to be deleted or at least disable it.

Hope to find my solution here.

It has always been part of the OS and as long as you don't use it, there is no need to remove it.... I don't think that it has ever been on blackberry world...

you can use Sachesi for that:

    1. open Sachesi
    2. connect your device to PC via USB
    3. click 'Install' tab in Sachesi
    4. press the 'refresh' button --> all installed apps are shown now
    5. mark these 2 bars: 'sys.android' + 'sys.android.shell'
    6. press the trash can on the upper left side of the screen and wait for the process for deleting to finish
    7. disconnect your device and reboot

Is it save to remove it?
Will android ported app (bar) can still run?
Or bar and apk both run on android runtime?

You might need it some day and then you'll have to go to extra trouble to get it back.

I would say let it be.

I might be wrong here but I think that would require reloading the whole OS.

Anyway, whatever suits you. Enjoy your phone!

why you want to remove it?!
many BB apps actually are android ports an they need the runtime...

Thanks for asking this, please post here if there are hiccups after removing.

I never did trust this android thing and got no reason to believe it sits there idle even with nothing android in my Z10. It might be eating something inside.

My main reason for now was that I don't use Android apps, hence I find this feature useless on my device and rather stop it.

As to BlackBerry apps, I only added apps such as Bible, Dictionary, Endomondo and CB10. The rest were all stock.

BTW, I removed the following stock apps too:
    DropBox, LinkedIn, Tweeter.

I wouldn't recommend removing it. I suspect it's an old Windows or Android user habit to remove programs in hope to make the system lighter and snappier, but the thing is it depends on how well the core OS is optimized. BlackBerry 10/QNX is extremely well optimized for maximum performance with minimal hardware usage, so removing Android Runtime won't make any positive influence, it may just cause you unnecessary problems. The runtime is running on background, but since you don't have any Android apps it doesn't use many resources and has minimal influence on the system, current BlackBerry hardware is also sufficient so there's no need to tweak around. As has been mentioned - remember the basic rule from The I.T. Crowd "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Well, Endomondo app is ported version, so it should not run after you remove the runtime
