My father finally got all his contacts in order on Hotmail, now he wants to delete all local contacts from the phone and just keep the Hotmail contacts, but the option to delete all local contacts in the accounts settings doesn't work, just don't delete anything. He has almost 5000 contacts, mostly duplicates, real contacts are 1700 (the ones he has synced in Hotmail), we don't know how this happened, I think it was the Skype app that duplicated the contacts but I'm not sure.

He has a Passport with the latest 10.3.1 update.

If someone knows another way to do this please let me know, I don't want to wipe the phone.

delete hotmail acct

then press and hold first contact then select more , and go all the way down one by one and at the end click delete
when finish reinstall hotmail acct

So it sounds like you found the option already? Just double checking.

In Settings app, go to Accounts, tap menu (3 dots) button at bottom right, select Clear Local Contact from overflow menu.

Doesn't work? First thing is try a device reset. (Not exactly same as a Restart.)
Hold down top key and don't let go. Ignore any onscreen options or countdown.
After the red LED flashes on then back off, release the top key.

If they're still there, try the option in Settings one more time now that you've done the hard reset.

Will take time but I guess it will be better than wiping the phone. Thank you for the idea, simple but didn't saw it.

Will try that today that I see my father, I'll let you know how it goes. If it doesn't work will have to go rbtg idea, just 5000 clicks LOL.
