    I was trying to do a file transfer via WiFi direct from my friends S3 to my passport and my classic, neither would accept or even prompt to accept the file transfer?

    Also, try the android app "ES File Explorer" for both your devices.

    I found it to allow a WiFi transfer, but my phones (my Q5 and another samsung) were in the same WiFi network, so I'm unsure if this will actually establish a WiFi _direct_ connection.

    Use the good old Bluetooth. It will work, albeit a bit slow.
