    My carrier didn't push it yet, telus canada. But it could also be non dependent on carriers

    The updates are on BlackBerry servers... Think carriers just give the green light and when BlackBerry puts the updates online your device sees it. Many of these carriers might have authorised the update weeks ago and your device has just been waiting to see it.

    Some carriers have authorised older updates, some haven't authorised anything yet... But it is BlackBerry that is doing the actual updates.

    Yep, Telus is missing it, as are the American carriers. It's definitely still relying on carrier approval, though it seems that quite a few carriers were able to approve it in advance this time around.

    It's an OTA update, it's non destructive you shouldn't lose anything.

    Back up is not normally necessary. But it doesn't hurt to have a current backup

    Actually we r not carrier dependent, ours Black berry's are unlocked, so we had it early, or u may say directly from BlackBerry servers

    I taught that once you put a SIM in your device is "locked" to the carriers system (and updates).. but the devices are "unlocked" in that you can use any carriers SIM card.
    Just saw where BlackBerry announced this morning that direct purchased devices would get the direct updates....

    I phoned Bell from British Colombia and they said should be by tonight by 11:59 but did say that it could be delayed if the update had problems with there software
