Does anyone know what sensors are used to detect whether you are holding your device?

I have enabled the "Hold to stay awake" option which appears to work most of the time. Sometimes it doesn't seem to work so I'm curious how it detects whether you are holding the device so I know how I should be holding it.

I assume the accelerometer is able to detect the slightest movement. On my device, personally I have not been able to extend the screen timeout delay by much while holding

I thought that was most likely. I did wonder if it used eye tracking with the front camera but I tested this by putting my phone on a solid surface but keeping my eyes on the screen and it went off.

The only issue with being accelerometer based is that if the screen was on in your pocket somehow while you were walking it would stay on for ages and waste the battery.
