I have an .xlm file that I'm constantly opening at work, but since I have all my work files in a (Work) folder in my documents, I have to open file manager / documents /work/ file. It's a pain and time consuming. I can open Docs to Go and use recent files, but it takes just as long. I would like to have it on my home screen.

DocuShortcut from the BBW is your 100% solution. Not only it adds shortcuts, but they open directly in EDIT mode vs some other methods.

Now I have a new problem. When I open up the xlm file an android app called file converter tried to open it. So I deleted the app, then another app called Utorrent tried to open it, so I deleted it too. Then the browser tries to open the file, this is getting annoying.

When I go into file manager I set the xlm file default app to Sheets to Go, yet this doesn't seem to have any effect. Maybe this is an issue with 10.2.1.1259, I have yet to install the new leak.
