Ok, phone stays on all the time for weeks and months. So I'm wondering if it's healthy to reset it from time to time? Does this clear some registries, caches etc that could optimize performance? Any other way to do this when phone is on?

I'm also not clear on the difference between
    - reset (press & hold top button until red LED flashes) and
    - restart (press & hold top button and hit restart on the screen)

    Thanks!

Certainly the odd stuck process or junk in RAM gets cleared.

Just about any OS, yes even Linux, profits from the occasional reboot. That's just practical advice, I know the theory says it's not needed.

Microsoft Windows can become unstable, and requires reboots anyway due to updates that need to be installed for security reasons.

    Understood. thank you
So is there a difference between reset/restart and a battery pull for that matter as well?

I don't know the differences between the two different options you mentioned (reset vs restart). But....I do a restart every day. I figure why not. No harm. If errant things are in memory then I'm only clearing out those things that I can actually attempt to control.
