Do you think we will be able, with 10.2 OS, to keep apps working without letting them open as active frames?

Headless apps should be ready for 10.2 general release. Some Android apps (namely Skype) can already work headless.

So, in theory, no more active frames open?

Correct, that's the working definition of headless apps in the bb10 environment.

    - Battery life?? .. headless apps won't they consume battery ... and the apps that will run in background .. new solutions will be needed to manage them ..

I'm guessing there will be some form of task manager, so you know what's running headless etc.

There are some threads re task managers - it's probably going to become necessary.

Not entirely correct. Developers will still be able to write applications the way they have until now. For some applications that will make sense. Applications that need to run in the background, really not very many if they really take advantage of BB10 features like push, geo-fencing etc, will be able to.

So would the led apps that change color for different contacts finally work when they aren't open?

To my knowledge both the developers of BeBuzz and Hub++ have said once the API is released, they will update their apps to take advantage of that. My hope is they are already testing this since 10.2 is out for developers.

BlackBerry has said they are limiting the headless API to certain devs for now, as to make sure its not abused as it can be a battery killer.

On top of that BlackBerry 10.2 will be bringing a resource manager to keep track of apps open in the background.

So if BeBuzz is't part of this "limited" group of devs - they can't even take advantage of this new API with 10.2? Disappointing... but not really surprised.

Would there be an option to turn that off? I already have two batteries so I can swap one when the of dies but apps running headless will destroy the battery beyond belief.

I'll be a system permission on app install.

Further down this route - all headless apps need a "launch and do this" event. And RIM controls the allowed events.

So, on call - launch app in background to process it then quit.

Now I could be wrong but I haven't seen anything from bbry themselves outside of that... which might mean they won't be truly background apps.

But it's been a dogs age since I reviewed the plans.
