Dunno if this will work for you, but i've been having trouble trying to either save an image from the Internet or trying to attach a file or image to a text/bbm or email and this just seemed to solve my issue. Hope i'm not imagining it.

System settings>security and privacy>application permissions>whatsapp

Turn off "shared files" permission

See if this works

No, it's for all types of messages.

I think one of the android apps is hogging the files & images structure that is delaying and preventing attachment or saving files/images when you attempt to do so.

I tried for 15 min to attach a photo to a BBM message and failed.

After I disabled the whatsapp permission as shown above, I was suddenly able to attach the photo to the BBM msg I was failing to do.

Again, i'm not 100% certain this is the culprit, but if anyone else is having this issue since i've seen it coming up more often on these forums, try my fix and see if it helps.
