I never even heard of whatapp until I bought my passport se a few months ago. I've never used whatsapp and don't care. I'm happy with the passport as it is and plan to keep using it for some time. I'll reconsider once the mercury comes out. The lack of apps on the passport doesn't bother me one bit. If I need an app, I have an iPad for that. And I have my old firephone as backup.

So right now, the only upcoming phones that might tear me away from the passport as primary phone are the mercury or the ektra. We'll see.

I have absolutely no clue as to why people don't think BBM is a viable alternative to Whatsapp. I do realize that it isn't 100% the same but every app has its pluses and minuses. Yes it would be a chore getting friends to download BBM and helping them realize it just as good but hey, that's how Whatsapp started.
I'm not leaving my Passport for one app with a simple solution.

It's due to the fact most people won't install an app just for the sake of being able to contact one person (BB10/BBM user)

Jep. Instead of dumping it end of december I'm going to dump it by the date I'm buying a Mercury or end of June. Just what happens first.

I hope you don't tell your parents and grandparents that they are too old (I am willing to bet that they are older than three years old).

The only thing I don't like about 10.2.2 is the reduced notification volume. I have grown accustomed to it and have been checking my Q10 every five minutes since I screwed up and "upgraded" from a fully functioning 10.2 OS.

I am very happy about the What's App reprieve. I have been racking my brain as to what could possibly replace my awesome PP.

Absolutely has. I was eyeing an iphone and waiting to see what black friday or boxing day sales were out, but not, short of a massive sale, I'll wait.

Whatsapp is super important for me, as it's how i keep in contact with my friends abroad.

It has had no effect on myself or anyone I know, we use email and here's a radical concept, we use the phone to communicate quickly and efficiently.

Has the delay for the shutdown convinced you on keeping your BB10 device longer?
Your BB10 device does not depend on the whatsapp app. Even if whatsapp will be discontinued today, your BB10 device will still work.

Well. I had planned to use my device longer, but the Black Friday Deal was too good. I've ordered a Priv. I hope it doesn't take too long to be shipped. It said it was currently unavailable on BlackBerryShop, but I was able to buy it anyway.

I'm curious to know from those who prefer BBM over whatsapp, how many contacts they have on bbm .

As for me, even if I prefer BBM, I have 6 contacts on BBM, but most of them don't even use it, and 351 contacts on whatsapp.

I could prefer BBM, but it is becoming quite useless for me ...
