In general the runtime is okay for lightweight apps, but it struggles enormously with anything that accesses system storage or uses media.

It's almost misleading advertising on the part of BlackBerry to claim that BB10 can run Android apps, since most of them perform so poorly that using them isn't practical.

I don't remember it always being this way.

Yes, it has. What's worst is that it won't be improved anymore.

I really wish BlackBerry could just kill BB10 officially and push an android update.

Let me guess, you own a Q10/Classic. Those aren't going to run Android apps that need any horsepower. Passport users don't have as many complaints.

I'm on a Z10 - same chipset as the Q10 and Classic - and the Android apps I use run fine.

I own a SE and many of my apps don't function, any app with the size above 30mbs lags like hell.

I can't comment on everyone, but what I use works fine. So +1 to that part of it.

To the other post wishing that BlackBerry would just kill off BB10 and be done with it, I say different strokes. I would be happy if BlackBerry removed the android runtime and continued BB10 without it. I would still choose BB10 over the alternatives, and I would manage.

Who really knows where BB10 is going. I don't think BlackBerry knows, in fact. But for me, the end of BB10 would be the end of my customer relationship with BlackBerry.

Passport and huge complaints here. The Android apps are incapable of extracting anything from your device. What a joke! What will happen when WhatsApp for BB10 stops working and everyone moves to the apk? We won't be able to send any photos or videos?

It's possible the app dev's are slowly optimizing it for a newer Android 4.4-6. Try a device wipe then reload the app. Still slow then chances are it's the app dev.

Smaller android apps work well on my Q5. Things like banking, phone carrier, and messaging apps. These are usually niche programs only available on Android/iOS so I'm glad they work. Games and other resource hungry things are more hit and miss.

The ideal thing would be that BlackBerry runs its own version of apps for all the apps that we need, not using ART at all.

    That's IDEALLY, of course.

BB 10 seems dead to me. I wish Blackberry just pushes android to all the BB 10 devices or somehow deals with Google to allow Google play services in current BB10 devices.

It is possible to program a WhatsApp client easily. Someone has done it for libpurple: https://github.com/davidgfnet/whatsapp-purple

What would be needed is a developer willing to do it.

I own a Classic and experience alike. However, many stupid but popular softwares in China exceed 30mbs easily as a lot of features are added. This is why I'm transferring to Android, though I like BlackBerry a lot.
