My Passport arrives tomorrow (yes I'm excited beyond belief) and I currently have a Verizon Q10.

    I have a few questions :-)

I plan on doing a Full Backup on the Q10 via Link.

    1. Can I simply throw this on the Passport as a "Restore" and the UI will be pretty much identical to my Q10 just as if I had purchased another Q10?

    2. I can't port my number to AT&T until Tuesday. Will this have any effect if I transfer my BlackBerry ID, BBM, etc onto the Passport from the Q10 while the Q10 still has my phone number? (Meaning, I won't have to do a new reset or anything to change the ID again etc)?

    3. Does BlackBerry Blend completely replace Link for back ups and stuff as well or is it only for a Desktop BlackBerry interface?

    Thanks guys.

    Answer: not sure, never restore.

    Answer: Phone number doesn't matter

Answer: it supplements it but doesn't replace it
    Thanks guys.

So if it supplements it, what do I use for back ups in the future?

And if I don't restore, what Link feature would I use to transfer everything from the Q10?

You will still be using BlackBerry Link for syncing and backups.

There is an app called device switch

If I don't do a restore what do I do to bring back the data on the Passport? (terminology). Thanks.

Not 100% sure what you want to really, but Link allows you to do a full restore to your new Passport from the Q10 backup (only the apps and media information) or you can also do a device switch.

You might want to try a clean install of new os if your are doing leaks. Not sure how the back-ups are working. I have re-built my passport 3 times; the original set-up - went well, the 1418 Rogers release - this was a bit of a disaster with time zone bug and contacts, then 632 with 634 apps which has been rock solid after the first 36 hours after settling.

Now sitting here wondering if I should try 800/821. Do enough clean installs and it seems pretty easy. Everything I use except Password Keeper seems to rebuild itself fine...it takes a few hours but football is on...

Just make sure your media and files are on the SD card, otherwise you can also just enable usb support to rebuild some of these

I've always just set up a new device from scratch. It's more fun knowing that it's new and sometimes making it look just like your old screens tarnishes the new feeling of the shiny new device. And I like thinking I'm not carrying over any files meant for the old OS/device and have a nice, clean, fresh device. I don't even restore when loading a new leak on the same device, but that's probably overkill for most.
