Gmail account setup
Configuring my Z30 accounts on 10.3.1.1784 I found that for the Gmail account you can not filter what you want it to do like other accounts.
Instead the setup brings you to a Google app screen where you can not control account behaviour. In my case I did not want to use or interact with contacts and calendar due to past sync issues on BB.
I'm looking for a good description of how this app works and why we can't use the normal BB account process. So far I have not experienced problems with either of my calendar and contacts contrary to what the app states it does.

Not sure what you are referring to. My gmail associates the same as any other imap account. There is 1 extra Google authentication screen. But you can still choose between mail, contacts and calendar.
You can also choose sub folders to sync or not Sync.
I have no "app"

That's "the extra authentication screen" I mentioned in the previous post. It's just a wrapped site.
All you are doing is telling Google that you are authorizing your BlackBerry to gain access to the items listed in the screen.
Later on you get to select which ones you want, mail contact calendar.

The only options I see is edit folder settings and data control. No option to turn on/off contact/calendar sync.

That's cause you are editing email only or contacts only.
Settings > accounts > open Gmail account
You will see the Gmail account listed 3 times now. Email, contacts, and calendar.
Press and hold on calendar and side menu opens which gives delete option. Repeat for contacts if that what you want.
In my screenshot you will see I only have mail and contacts. Because I chose to not use calendar.

I only have one Gmail account showing and the only side menu option is to delete it. It could be a google issue as I don't use their calendar, but I do have email contacts and these have not been transferred over.
