Glad I did not get sucked into a Passport purchase. I was tempted by the silver edition, but now that Chen has officially kicked OS10 to the curb, my allowance of being played for a chump has ended at Z30. I'll ride the Z30 till it's dead , but John Chen and BB will get no more of my money. Much to my chagrin, JC and TH before him turned to be good examples of "The Peter Principal"

Amazing how personally sound business decisions can be taken. BB10 is a proven consumer failure. The Passport came out well over a year ago. The time when your purchase could have influenced BB10's fate has long since passed.

Funny. I run my business using a Passport. Works great. Excellent business tool in my opinion. Just got a second last month.

Strange.. I sold my Passport and now in a weird sort of way miss it.

I'm thinking now on getting a Silver edition one as that's a great looking device... and I must say, using the Passport and now the Classic, the difference in speed is very noticeable.

I was tempted to sell my passport as was getting a very good price for it so tried apple and androids for a month but trust me guys I ended up coming back to passport with the decision that I will keep it till it works and will go for priv next I was already missing the passport as my daily driver when on ios and android they dont compare passport is hell of a beast....if you dont have one stock one as a piece of history which is going down and nothing was ever built the way bb10 worked and you can walk with pride as you have used a passport nothing compares to it.....and my worst night mare ios and android I never knew pop up and advt. Were so frequent being from BlackBerry clan I was shocked as was experiencing it for the first time.....hail passport we will miss you

Why do these posts use wording like "officially"? That is the exact opposite of reality. You can say "unofficially" to be more accurate.

Anyway you really are missing out by not going with the Passport. By the time they officially announce BB10 is officially dead and they no longer support it the hardware will be well obsolete. In the mean time unless you have a 5 year upgrade cycle you would be good for a while.

Yes. Most Android phone manufacturers are. The exception is Samsung I believe.

Many thanks both for that info. Makes for interesting read.

I'm even more convinced now that BlackBerry did a very stupid move by going Android! But, that's just my opinion!

They only had 2 moves to make. Try GooBerry, or ditch the hardware division without trying. You can't fail unless you try, so while many are full of hate, I commend Chen for being willing to fail.

How about failing by actually trying?

BlackBerry NEVER actually tried with BB10. I see them trying far more, as a last ditch attempt, with Android than they ever did with BB10.

BINGO! I've wandered into the Priv threads occasionally, and am astounded by the speed and attention issues are addressed or even just acknowledged, something I never saw with BB10.

I don't know exactly how much BlackBerry was offering the big name apps, but I know it was a sizable chunk of cheese. In the end, with low prospectives for users, they unfortunately decided two platforms were enough to support. Could BlackBerry have done more? Probably so..., but at what cost, and for what gain?

Their failures imo were releasing an immature OS, a mid-level spec product, an abysmal Link, and a stripped down Protect.
Edit - Forgot to mention dropping BIS services. In the end, there was little to motivate BBOS users over, or get iPhone/Android users to switch.

So why are you sticking with the Z30 till it's dead, a device that is a year older than the Passport, lol. I'm guessing it's working for you so far or you would have thrown it to the curb in favour of something else non-BlackBerry related long ago. It's not like there aren't about a billion different all touch devices available on all platforms, with varying specs, and better prices. Amirite? =)

Hey, it's your money so do what you want, just sayin'
