It does not matter. Flash is so small nowadays and does not even make a dent into BlackBerry World if they remove the small amount of apps that are based on Adobe Technology. The benefit is clearly that BB is saving lots of licensing cost with this step.
?? BB10 has always supported Adobe Flash
Is the iPhone a failure with no flash? How about Android devices that don't run it natively? Nope.
We don't need it, but it is reportedly coming back. Also, Adobe itself stopped working on flash for mobile so how about them supporting their own product? They don't care about mobile flash and it's their product...
Personally I use an android browser with the flash apk to view flash sites. I rarely have a need though...

Let's examine your post...
1) survived even with the 'app gap'
2) survived before bb10
And the third is the biggest...ready?
3) Adobe is the one that dropped support for the mobile platform. This mean BlackBerry didn't abandon flash, flash abandoned BlackBerry. Also NO other platform has flash, natively...
So, to answer your question, I believe BlackBerry will survive just fine.

I use flash to stream from sports sites and various TV shows. I hope they keep it!

Did they abandon Flash or did they abandon apps that are made with Adobe Air? Is Flash also not supported? I believe they are two different things, though related.
They got rid of Adobe air, as far as Flash, Adobe gave up supporting the flash for mobile devices...

Flash is a dying technology. Adobe themselves are no longer supporting it on mobile, and it would be very expensive for BlackBerry to continue to support it. I don't expect Flash to be gone from 10.3.1 (BlackBerry has made no announcement to this effect), but its days ARE numbered.
That's why I have the android browser apk combo.

Mobile Flash died long ago, but only now did BlackBerry shoot that zombie in the head.
