Why would it be worth it?
This ^. It'd be great, but I kind of doubt it, sadly. x
Yeah. I remember the rumors popping up that BlackBerry was working on a way to install apk's directly or not having to side load bars. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we aren't getting Google play store but the ability to install directly to the device. Perhaps through the file manager. That would be a welcomed addition.

Read the whole thread, paying particular attention to those posts explaining why this isn't possible.

I thought Eric uses a BB for security purposes, is he really a BB fan? It would be great if he is and intents to help BlackBerry. But at the end of the day BlackBerry is competing against his own company. Interesting scenario.
Whats wrong with Z10? will Playstore work properly with Z10? Thanks.
I love this idea. Can't believe BlackBerry never thought of it before. Maybe under the new leadership it will happen sooner than later.
P.s. It's kinda funny I never met a professional troll before. I won't mention who it is but as evidenced by his thread count and lack of being a moderator I think we all know who it is :D
This is mildly entertaining
If you're talking about CJH_, I can tell you that he is not a "professional troll". He's not even a troll. I personally agree with his take of the story.

Since when did providing information backed up by facts become 'professional trolling'?
By your reckoning, everyone on CrackBerry who has a post count equal to or higher than mine is also a troll.
I like your logic.
If you actually read the whole thread, you'd see there are other posters who have disproved CatlinFD.

Thanks, Chaz.
Though I'm not the only one who has disproved CatlinFD.

Agreed! I highly hope this doesn't happen! BlackBerry devs are much better than android ones! I'm happy to keep paying for apps because their QUALITY and then many other are still free too so BlackBerry world has the best of both worlds!

Thanks for letting me know. But he was just sharing something he found. Will it eventually happen or not is irrelevant.
I do hope it happens. You think it's unlikely, he think it's coming. Does the difference matter? Just wait for 10.2.1, right?
I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but do people realize that companies can join the OHA? Also, the member list hasn't been updated on the site since early 2012 or longer than that (it lists SonyEricsson as a member - a company that hasn't existed since Feb2012, and it doesn't list Sony Mobile). So relying an old list with a membership that can change is not the most reliable way to build an argument.
Android may be switching from the Dalvik VM.

Anilu never said she thinks it's unlikely, she said Catlin has no evidence to back up his claims.

This thread had more than 25 000 views over the past days. Some posters say it's impossible, simply not workable and won't/can't happen. Some posters are adamant it is a done deal and just a matter of time. What's absent in here is the participation of CrackBerry staff. Do you guys know something and can't talk, or is this simply too far fetched that a response is not even warranted. I know that you don't respond to each and every post but for something of this magnitude, it's perhaps warranted.
That won't change the BB10 Android runtime's ability to run applications though. Maybe in the future.

They're not really competitors. Google doesn't make phones, They're more interested in using Android as a vehicle for their real business (data mining and advertising) as evidenced by their iOS apps. Plus BlackBerry just doesn't have the market share to worry Google.
I seriously doubt Google considers BlackBerry as a competitor as much as it's sad to say.

In the next version of android, which is irrelevant to this discussion because if it is, and I'm not saying is true, a done deal Google would provide an updated runtime to BlackBerry too, so it doesn't matter.
It will. Let me explain why. Currently in order to run, apps use the Dalvik VM; if Google change the run time then all Android apps will have to be recompiled to run under ART.
Now, BB10 uses a Dalvik VM 'runtime', suppose you sideload an apk of Google Maps that's written to run under Dalvik and then Google updates Maps to only run under Art, any newer versions simply won't run on BB10 as that's using Dalvik.
Therefore, BB10 would have to recompile BB10 to be compatible with ART.

BlackBerry would still need to recompile BB10 to be compatible with the new runtime.
My Channel: Geeks United C00122408
When that happens, it could be BlackBerry OS 10.3 or whatever... My point is that as of now it doesn't matter, and is irrelevant to this discussion which is on the basis of deal cut between Google and BlackBerry to allow such a thing, which should have take into account Google's plans of updating the runtime which aren't exactly a secret.
I don't know why that would be a point to prove the deal is "fantasy" or that it could never be true.
Didn't people say we get BlackBerry 10 on Playbook? They had good sources and inside information and whatever :D

Regardless of what happens in the future with ART, the fact also is, that when Google makes that change, they will have to accommodate all of the existing phones out there as well. I imagine that it will be a long change process.
What is true, is that nearly any Android app i want to run - already works on 10.2.1 runtime. Not everything (i.e. as discussed, come that rely on Google services, widgets, etc do not), but the vast majority do. Given that, I could imagine that Google could work many types of deals with BB for 1. Search engine preference for years 2. Ad revenue from apps 3: Google wallet, etc. There is no end to what Google could extract from BB in order for BB to get a deal that it needs.
Meaning - anything is possible for the right deal. And, remember, Google does not monetize the Android OS anyway. What they monetize is App sales, and advertizing. If the business model holds, why would they not?
I am not saying that I believe that there is a deal - but lets not kidd ourselves. Money makes the world go around, and Google is the king of the alternative monetization model. And unfortunately, BB is playing from a weak position. I can easily see a deal that would allow this. The question is what else comes with it....
Pictures are too easily faked. Post a video. It is harder to fake. No excuses. If you can take pics, you can shoot video.
This is not impossible technically, but it seems really unlikely because of politics.
Everyone is just hoping against hope that Blackberry hits one out of the park. So do I but we have to be realistic.
