Don't you still need the password after you restore a back up that had a password set?

It wouldn't solve it because after fail to enter picture password 5 times you also need your phone password to unlock.

I feel your pain. Happened to me two months ago. I was too embarrassed to share my headache since I didn't back up. Once is enough to teach me a lesson. I backup very regularly now.

Most people would, if only Link didn't make it such a pain in the a$$.

Glad to hear the device security is working properly. I'd be sad if you told us that it just let the kids into the device after the 10th incorrect entry.

It's not clear to me of it was you wife who eventually wiped your phone, but FYI for the next time log into BlackBerry Protect and reset the device password remotely before you enter the last one.

And even if it's behaving it still takes an awfully long time; and the more data it has to backup the longer it takes. It certainly gives me pause, there's been a couple times I resorted to planning out when to back up.

Have pushed it to once a month, now that leaks seem to be a thing of the past
Can't justify 3-4 hours every weekend just to backup my phone

Toy my knowledge Link won't backup over WiFi. Did you mean she syncs data like Music and Movies?

I try to keep as little informations on my phone as possible. Like:
    Use email account for contacts,
    For notes something like Evernote,
Save photos, videos and documents on SDcard,
Also you can use email sync for calendar or use BlackBerry calendar and backup it with Fire Chest backup.
So even in case if device getting wiped / damaged, data lost would be minimal.
Of course, there is still lot to do, apps, settings... but make it disasters proof as much as possible.
And from time to time, sit down and do Link backup.

Maybe that's what it is doing. I've never tried and she only knows a phone can make calls and how to play games. I had to side load the leak and snap for her. She showed me some box about connecting over wi-fi and she has it checked.

    To answer some questions.
After the wipe, its basically a new phone out of the box. No password required to enter device.
Go through all setup menus, tutorial, etc...
I didnt find the latest backup, so sadly, everything started from scratch!

She does use picture password, like someone mentioned, after so many attempt, it wants you to enter blackberry, then pin.

I didnt know about reset capability via protect, thanks for the tip. Hopefully I wont need it in the future, nut at least now I know.

And yes, as you all can imagine, its a bummer!!!!

So I am like the person above who had their kids try the password too many times. I am on my last attempt before the wipe. I've tried changing the password with blackberry protect and I still can't remember the current password. The Blackberry link never worked for me no matter what I did so backing up the 2 text messaged I so desperately need will be lost. (
Reason for forgetting my password - - - - - - - - My BB went for a 3 hour swim and I got a new phone. Didn't need this one until now a few months later. fml
