AFAIR, back in the PlayBook days BlackBerry signed an agreement with Adobe to get access to the source code of Flash Mobile. The thinking at the time was that BlackBerry would take it on to port updates from desktop Flash to mobile Flash. Adobe had already announced at the time that Flash on mobile was going away.
And then the PlayBook flopped, of course...

Ok, that COULD work if Adobe WOULD do it. For BlackBerry this would mean a lot of work and money to invest for a small amount of users in an even smaller OS niche which want to access sport and pr0n sites. Apparently that's not the focus of BlackBerry anymore.
The idea at the time was to be able to address some security and compatibility fixes in the code for version 11. Otherwise, the first vulnerability that came along would have killed it immediately for BlackBerry.
