Yes, there can. Whatsapp made it very clear that the native BB10 app won't work after Dec. 31.

A WA developer also said that the Android app will likely continue to work after that cutoff but is unsupported (a given caveat with any Android emulation on BB10).

Unless a developer is using BlackBerry's push services, Android apps will only show notifications if the app is open or active on the CPU (seen through Device monitor).

This seems to be correct. Android-Whatsapp needs to be open and active to get notifications. What I've resorted to is leaving Whatsapp open and maximized on the CHATS tab. I seem to get all notifications this way. Any other state, such as minimized, and there are no notifications from Whatsapp.

Yes. This is the default setting. But it doesn't seem to help notifications. I need to keep Whatsapp as the open/showing screen to get notifications.

Just tried again, same as b4 stuck "looking for backup ". I wonder why some people get it to work while others have this ever lasting search for backups.

Had that with my Classic. All Cobolts stuff loaded. After putting in the code they sms'd me for the 3rd time, came up with the "needs google play services" error again - > OK -> then looking for backups but I left it for about half an hour. When I came back it had figured itself out....patience. Then sideload that WAA fixer .bar file.

It lies cause play services is installed and Waze and other android apps work fine.
The last install that worked was from the .apk (October 19 2016) downloaded from the whatsapp website but I doubt that had anything to do with it.

I also had deleted the BB whatsapp app before installing the android version.

I am not sure the dev is the one deciding when to cut off BB10 from the servers (I think so)
The dev had said at some point BB10 devices will stop connecting to the servers
That can be at any point of time
Although to be clear, I am not expecting it to actually work but don't know what will actually happen after 31st December

Please, don't spread false information. Twitter is still supporting BB10. In fact, they're working on a new update right now which'll bring support for the new longer tweets (where media links don't get counted in anymore).

What did get me bamboozled for a while was after I got it working there were no contacts.
The Android ver seems to not be able to read your contacts if you using exchange / enterprise (BES).

Simple solution for me was to copy all my contacts to my SIM.
Just means I�ll have to keep the SIM updated so I�ll copy them again every few weeks or months.

About the function of the app, Rodger - the developer wrote in Beta-Zone:

"WAA Fixer is a really simple app : all it does is watch for any media added in the WhatsApp folder and changes permission to the files in order to be able to share them. It might not work from time to time if WhatsApp is fast enough to send the media before WAA Fixer is able to change the permission."
