Hey wouldn't you believe it? I've never tried using facebook on my Q10. Ever. For 3 years (or 2 I think). Ever.

Long story short, I want to use it now, but I've read in some threads that fb messes up your contacts, BlackBerry Hub (it doesn't get removed even if you've uninstalled fb), notifications still there even If fb is not, notifications for games, apps etc that you are not subscribed to, and etc.

So is there a way to just limit the fb intrusion into my phone? Just want to read stuff and doesn't want notifications, contacts merging or anything on my Q10. Any ideas or steps to do that? I may miss a step and before I know it, everything merges with fb.

    Thanks!

When you set up your Facebook account, you'll have the options to sync contacts or different types of notifications.... I've never had an issue with my contacts....

Note if you use the contacts... the FB contact DB is separate, but it will "appear" to merge with any existing contacts.

Facebook will only show up in the Hub once you've logged in. However, after you've logged in, it stays in the Hub even if you set notifications to show only in the app. But, if you log out, it will go away in the Hub.

You also can't stop Facebook friends from showing up as contacts in the phone app, even if you turn off Facebook contacts in the contacts app itself.

Now, in the past, the contacts app would automatically import and link Facebook friends as soon as you logged in - there was no option. It was a regular ritual of mine to have to go in and unlink every Facebook contact from my regular contacts - many of which had nothing on common with each other but were linked anyway for some unknown reason. But, that was a year ago. I've unloaded the app completely ever since and only use the website for the 3 or 4 times a month I actually look at it (the extra 1GB a month of background data it used didn't help matters either). So, some of that may have been changed since then.

Use Facebook for Android version 28.0.0.20.16. If you set the app settings for turn all notifications off, it will not send notifications to the hub, and it will not affect your contacts at all. The app works quite well for an Android app, and doesn't use a lot of memory either because when you close it, it is not running in the background. You can also use it with the Android Messenger for Facebook version 25.0.0.17.14. Both these apps can be downloaded online. Just Google them.

Nothing above version 30 works on BlackBerry 10. I have found version 28.0.0.20.16 works smoothest though.

Isn't this answer dumb? because of that kind of attitudes that the BB devices will become same device as other Android device like the Priv.... How many FB users?????? From my side the FB BB10 isn't satisfactory.

    Google photos: not working
    FB: not working
    Gmaps: not working

Great to ear that these users should move to regular device...

The app works fine for me too, it just doesn't do a lot of the things it's supposed to do. Facebook has changed and the BlackBerry Facebook app hasn't caught up.

You've never had the broken notifications? That is my biggest gripe with it. Every day atleast one of my notifications opens up as an error with 'this message could not be loaded'. It happens every single day.

31 works, but that's it. Anything after that croaks.
