Since some of the more recent 10.2.1.xxxx OS'es, our BB10s now support exFAT file system for our memory cards.

Ive had a 64GB sandisk ultra which i have been using for many months before the recent file system support updates so at the time my only option is to reformat the card and use fat32.

I have just installed 10.3.0.1052 and i am very happy with the increase in speed/performance of the OS overall, and I thought since I am updating the OS i might as well do a backup of my sd card on my hard drive and then reformat the card to exFAT., in hopes to push the performance a little futher.

As im typing this I am doing a transferring back data to my freshly reformatted SDXC card in exfat format. I will report back in a couple of days after testing but meanwhile,

Has anyone had any experience with this transition?

Yes. I did the same thing and it made no difference to me. What kind of performance is important? I look for a file on my card and it is there and I choose it. I don't get the big speed increase.

In copying files? Took as long as ever. lol I think the faster speed is a fantasy.

I do know that my music won't play in my car through BT with exFAT as I tried it and it didn't work.

You can store files bigger than 4GB and deleting stuff should be faster according to Wikipedia.

I heard that accessing files via WiFi doesn't work with exFAT. Is that true/did you try that?

I occasionally get errors trying to play songs off my ExFAT formatted SD card. This the second cars I tried since I thought the problem with the first one might be with the card itself. The songs never error in the same place twice, and it is random so I don't think the files themselves are the issue.

I am hopeful that whatever transient issue I am seeing with the errors gets resolved in newer implementations of the driver.

There's no performance different. The they're partition formats.
I recommend using exFAT whenever possible. FAT32 is a partition format created in the Windows 95 days. 1995. Because of this, FAT32 has limited max file sizes 4GB, max partition size and some other minor stuff. exFAT is almost better in every possible way because it's new. Only downside is compatibility. Not everything can read it because it's a Microsoft proprietary piece. You have to pay Microsoft to use it, thus not everything you use will have support and be unreadable. Whatever you daily use, check those and try to use exFAT.

I have the same card, can you tell me what is the speed when you transfer files to your Phone? I mean when you connect your Phone with the usb cable, to your pc mine is so slow on Windows, below the Mb/s, but in Ubuntu is lighting fast

I reformatted my 32gb card to exfat this weekend, I was hoping for slightly better performance with photo access, I haven't seen a difference, but the photo app in 1052 is pretty buggy and slow.

It is nice to not have the 4gb file size limit any more.

You have to format on a pc, phone only formats fat32.

I didn't have any issues with the driver download after inserting the card.

I have the Sony 64GB card formatted in exfat and the wifi access to the drive from PC isn't working on Q10SQN100-1/10.3.0.1052.

It wasn't working on 10.2.1 until a recent updated card driver was pushed out. Then that fixed the issue on 10.2.1

Guess it will get fixed with official 10.3.1 release

Off subject......I got a sandisk 64gb sd card class 10 which I just formatted via the phone (z30). However when I try to transfer files via usb cable to my phone it says it's "not accessible.....the handle is invalid" and even when I do it direct with an adapter it says I need to format which doesn't work too.

When I put the card on my z10 it does state that there is a media card problem and cannot recognise it...once I format and put the card back in my z30....it works.

Not sure why this is happening as the other day I lost everything on my card and I don't feel comfortable with loading my data. I feel cautious to using it now as I'm worried that I will lose my data again.

I'm running10.3.0.1052 now but when I lost the data I was on 10.2.1.

I formatted mine on the phone Q10SQN100-3/10.3.0.1052 and I was able to get it on exFAT.

I do feel that its a little faster. Like 10-15 percent.

There are articles only supporting this.

I'll believe that it is faster, supposed to have less overhead. I tried formatting on the phone first and it did fat32.

Glad to see that it worked out.

The big advantage of exFAT is the file format understands how to write to a memory card and not destroy the area that the File Allocation Table resides. A memory card will last longer formatted in exFAT over FAT32.

I've tried it on another computer and did a format however when I use the original pc....i can't even do anything!

So I format again on my phone and the process is repeated! Not sure if the card is totally finished.

Only way for it to work is to format from my z10.

Just found out why my pc doesn't read the card....basically my pc is XP so it uses FAT32 and my net book is windows 7 so it's using exFAT.

So when I format from my z30 which is 10.3....its using exFAT and my z10 is using FAT32 which is 10.2.1.

So it would be ideal to know and see which is better.
