Thought people might find this article interesting, from the Guardian newspaper's website.

It'll be interesting to see what it means for BlackBerry.

Nice to see people are at least trying to break the monopoly created by Apple and Google.

I thought a monopoly was 1. It's a duopoly since they really don't like each other.

But the article references throwing their weight behind the new Firefox OS. What's interesting is all these mobile telecoms rallied behind Android to keep Apple in check, now they no longer want the beast they created.

Yes it does talk about suppprting the Firefox OS as an alternative to Apple and Google, but hopefully BBRY could step in and also show how viable it is as an alternative. It looks like there's a need for a 'third way' so to speak, and it'd be nice to see BBRY take that space, given how strong BB10 is. I wonder if BBRY will make any sort of moves to attract those companies that were looking at Firefox?

"....It aims to give consumers and makers of content more control by allowing apps to be downloaded directly from the internet rather than via an app store......"

That right there is when viruses will be rampant on smartphones. Currently Google are unable to regulate that with their app store properly, now imagine how awful it would become if there is no central place to download your apps. It's already geared towards developing markets. They are trying to break the two giants because of profits, nothing more.
