An essay I wrote for English class about BlackBerry (rough draft)
Where is BlackBerry? Do they still make phones? These are questions people ask when questioned about the smartphone company BlackBerry. Many people do not know of the completely new and exciting line of smart phones that will change the way you communicate on a day to day basis. It is sad to say that ever since 2009 BlackBerry has disappeared from the public's common knowledge, however, they have redesigned and honed in on creating multiple limit smashing phones. The new line of phones is called BlackBerry 10. These phones all come with the all new BlackBerry operating system 10 (BBOS10). The telecommunications giant now produces three new hand sets: the BlackBerry Q10 (with the traditional QWERTY Keyboard), the Z10 (a full touch screen, gesture based device) and the Z30 (with a 5" touch screen), these devices will change the way you communicate. BlackBerry is back in the game and should be given another chance, the reasons being are: the new handsets, the new operating system and BBM (BlackBerry Messenger)
The BlackBerry Q10 is a half touch screen half keyboard phone. Its sleek design makes it a beautiful device to look at and comes in either black or white. As well as the visual appeal the Q10 uses BBOS 10, an operating system designed to make your life easier and more efficient. BlackBerry is no longer solely a business phone but has great merit when it comes to the general public. People that made the switch to Apple when BlackBerry began to decline will be pleased to know that the trustworthy, security based device is back and ready for your abuse. The IOS (Apple) software just received a "revolutionary" update: IOS 7, but in reality nothing has dramatically changed other than the horrible colors that are now constantly bombarding your eyes. There is little to no learning curve for the new BlackBerry software, and once used it is easily missed. Why have a phone that you can't stand looking at when you can have a phone that will last a lifetime, keep your life in order and give you endless possibilities of communication with your social circle.
The second phone that BlackBerry is now producing, rivals the IPhone and various Android devices. It is called the BlackBerry Z10, the Z10 gives new BlackBerry users a familiar touch screen device with again, that amazing new operating system. BBOS 10 comes to life on the Z10 as the phone is completely gesture based, there are no more 'home' buttons. This creates a seem less experience allowing multi-tasking and communication to become a breeze. The Z10 comes equipped with an incredible keyboard. BlackBerry has always been known for creating amazing keyboards, the BlackBerry 10 keyboard learns from the way you talk and suggests words for you. The suggestions float above the next letter and you can simply swipe them on the screen. Deleting a word is done by swiping from right to left on the keyboard, removing that annoying process of pressing the delete button hundreds of times.To show how versatile the keyboard is this essay is being written on a BlackBerry Z10.
The third and newest BlackBerry 10 device to be released is the Z30. The Z30 has a 5" touch screen and appeals to the "phablet" (phone/tablet) market, it has a faster processor than the Z10 and a larger battery. The Z30 is definitely for the power user or someone that wants the benefits of BlackBerry 10 with the capability of watching movies and playing games on an amazing large screen. All the new BlackBerry devices have the ability to connect to an HMDI cable, giving you the possibility of sharing your experiences on the really big screen!
BlackBerry OS 10 is completely new from the ground up. Instant interactive notifications allow you to answer a text without leaving the app the you are currently in. The lock screen is enabled to let you sneak a preview of the unread messages that you have received (can be turned off for privacy), and when you do unlock your phone by swiping from the bottom of the screen to the top you can jump into the BlackBerry Hub. The BlackBerry Hub is a notifications center that combines all of your messages into one organized place, saving you from having to check each and every app for messages. Leaving an app is as simple as swiping up from the bottom of the screen and the hub can be accessed from anywhere in the phone simply swipe up and then right on the screen. The browser on the new BlackBerry smartphones is capable of running adobe flash player and is VPN enabled, which means no more 'cannot view in this country' problems. BlackBerry 10 runs a system called QNX, this system is used by high tech dangerous medical equipment because of its ability to shut down and restart without affecting the current process that it is running, this makes sure that when one app fails the whole system won't. BBOS 10 will not disappoint new users.
Did you ever use BBM? If so, don't you miss it? BBM offers multiple reasons that show its ability to be the best communication app on the planet. Firstly, BBM is instant and shows you when your message has been sent and read. Pictures, music and files can be sent through BBM which makes it very useful, and chats are not limited to just one on one. Group chats are a huge help when conversing with friends. You are probably thinking that the only way of getting BBM is by purchasing a BlackBerry device and the only people that you can contact will be those who have BlackBerry devices. That is where you are wrong, as of September 21 BBM will go cross platform according to Market wired in a press release this morning. BBM will not be limited to just phones either, a BBM website is being released making the app very easy to access.
BlackBerry is back and is ready to take pole position once more. The new smartphone line-up is completely innovative, a new operating system refreshes the way smartphones are used and BBM is going cross platform. These are the reasons that you should give BlackBerry a chance once more, put down your out of date IOS device, put down your boring android and choose BlackBerry 10. Your reward will be your happiness.
