Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this question, but......

If I understand correctly, some Android apps work with the BlackBerry 10 phones (including, presumably, the Classic). Anyone using apps or external hardware like the Square? Trying to figure out ways to take payments with credit/debit cards via my phone so I can increase POS transactions.

Barring that, any other BlackBerry specific option for taking card payments on the spot?

I moved this thread to BB10 OS since this question could apply to any BB10 device. Unfortunately I don't have a square to test it out with. It's pretty hit and miss with external devices, but unfortunately mostly miss. I DO have experience with smart watches as I have had a few. Martian watches, and Android Wear don't work, BUT the Pebble watch does.

Has anyone tried using a Square (for credit card processing) on a BB10 device?

Square works with one possible problem.. you may need to initialize it on a different device first but that's a one-time thing. After that, it'll work as expected.

Ok so he would initialize it on an Android Tablet or iPad, or iPod Touch, or something like that. You should be able to borrow someone's tablet worst case if you don't have an Android or iOS tablet.

Yeah, pretty much anything that Square officially supports will work and like I say, it's only a 'possible problem'..sometimes it goes through fine.

Mine works on my Q10. I am on 10.2.1. The only problem is that over $25, it asks for a signature, and I cannot get past that step. Screen may be too small?

If you can't get past the signature than you have the newer versions of square and that will not work. I use my square reader for numerous transactions a day and most are a couple hundred dollars per swipe, I depend on my square reader every day to run my business and it's great!!

If you need the APK file from an older version of square let me know and I can send it to you through email. I am using Square version 4.13.2 and I am using this on a Q10 running version 10.2

I have no experience with the Square running any of the newer versions on 10.3 but maybe that would work?

I installed Square on my Z30 first with NO initializing on an Android device with no problems whatsoever. After buying my Passport...I've installed it as well with no problems running on official 10.3.2.440 including all the latest available on Google Play Store/Snap for BB10




As you can the see on the top right hand corner, the free card reader isn't attached since it's in my other bag but, you can accept payment both by using the reader or by manually entering the credit card.



So far so good with the Square Android app on BB10. I constantly check all my Android app for the latest updates using Snap.
