I recently switched from MetroPCS to Cricket and my Passport's battery life is much better! Could this be from lack of searching for tmobile coverage? I don't know but a big plus in my book!

Yes, if your phone is constantly searching for coverage it will definitely have a negative impact on your battery!

Another point to add is that if you're in an area with weaker coverage you'll likely notice some sort of hit on your battery life as your device is trying to hold onto the weak signal, most notably with 4G LTE since it doesn't penetrate through buildings as well as traditional HSPA due to the frequencies that are currently in use, which is why a lot of folks will tend to sacrifice access to 4G LTE and set their phones only to connect to HSPA/GSM. Now 700 MHz LTE coverage will improve this situation greatly but it'll be some time yet before it's rolled out everywhere.
