Does the bb play FLAC?
Yes. BB10 supports FLAC - http://developer.blackberry.com/deve...a_support.html
Be aware that Link doesn't recognize the files though. You'll have to manage the files as via some other method. I use Media Monkey and usb mass storage setting.

All day long and they sound great too!

BB10 should play flac. If it doesn't then you shouldn't buy it.
The built-in music player just works on FLAC.
I have tested with very high bit rate FLAC, some are as large as 100MB and they all work flawlessly.

Are these very high bit rate files 24 bit? I am looking for a phone that actually has a 24 bit DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) rather than taking 24 bit files and down sampling to 16, thus removing the benefit. Does the Passport (or any Blackberry) have a 24 bit DAC?
I got FLAC files but couldn't hear the difference on my laptop and speakers. Is it noticeably better?

I listen to music at home through my studio monitor headphones and yes, there is a difference.

As a DJ myself / producer, I never use .FLAC files only .AIFF / .WAV 16bit or sometime 320kbps .Mp3 when there is no Wav version available.
To answer your question, yes there is a noticeable difference when listening to .Flac files compared to a standard mp3 at 320kbps but you have to be using Studio speakers / High end headphones to hear that difference :)

Zoc, me too, but It would be nice if Link recognized them?
My complete music collection equals 95gigs.
It would be nice, let's hope next time round, they bring fix.

The issue is that Link uses either iTunes or Windows Media Player as a music source so the only files that Link will see for transfer are ones that those two support, and neither support FLAC. BlackBerry should add in support for VLC or some other media manager to be able to see more file types.

I've almost never used link to transfer files. Just insert the SD card in the PC, copy files, and insert in the phone again...

Media Monkey, for sure!
Me too. I actually manage the FLEC files with Media Monkey.
I turn on Mass Media Storage and sync away.
I just drag and drop via mass storage. Works.

Yeah, flick on mass storage works fine for me too. I always use it like that. Link only for backups
