Does 10.3.1 bring back the auto shut off / turn on feature that was on the bold 9900.

No. There's no stand by mode on BlackBerry 10. The auto shut-off wasn't actually a shut-off

What do you mean no standby mode? And what is auto shut-off?

There is bedside mode, which only allows phone calls only. With the 10.3.1 OS bedside mode also has battery saving capabilities. This works wonderfully well. Not sure if this answers your question?

In the old os (bold 9900) there was a feature in Options menu, under device called :Auto on/off it allowed the user to set automatic power on and off times. You had the option of setting what time your device powered on and off on both the week days and weekends. Very handy feature if you like to fall asleep to music or audio books, you know your device would automatically turn off shutting down all functions and saving your battery

The bedside mode works great but must be done manually. If there was a option to set the device to go into beside mode at a specific time and also to wake from bedside mode then it would be equivalent to the previous feature

    Well yeh, d'uh.

But a thread wouldn't be a CrackBerry thread if we didn't argue the meanings/differences between "Turn Off" and "Full Power Off" and bicker back and forth about it. I think OP got his answer a day or two ago. Mustn't leave it at that....

BBOS, as you can see in the screen shots, has a standby mode and full power off mode. Basically the difference between turning off a PC or letting it go to sleep. BB10 does not have a standby mode, if you turn it off it fully powers down the device. Thus, since the auto on/off function on BBOS put the device into standby where it can turn itself back on, BB10 does not and can not currently support an auto on/off function.

When it is powered down it is fully powered down and does not have the ability to turn its self back on. As oppose to standby which allows some system functions to still operate. It is safe to assume the auto on/off feature will never be incorporated into a BB10 device.

What gets me is why they have not brought back the full bedside mode settings for BB10. You could set it to turn on/off at certain times and/or if it was plugged in. With a little bit of spit and polish this could very well work in lieu of the old stand by mode. I found the option really useful for ensuring that I wouldn't be disturbed by emails or texts in the middle of the night while not having to remember to adjust the settings. As we have seen improvements to the beside mode functions I assume they are still working on this.

Tdyhedge and withdrawl thanks for the image post. Mirk you described it exactly. I would definitely be satisfied with an enhanced bedside mode that allowed the setting to be customized. I hope they are working on that as it was a feature that I used daily and now miss
