Almost a year with my Q10 and I don't remember using this key once...
    - for incoming calls - I always use the grey dot on screen to mute if ineeded
    - during a call - again I always use the on screen mute icon
    - when using my handsfree, I use the button there to mute
    - I don't use the voice assistant however

If it's a rarely used key shouldn't BlackBerry try to have a better use for it in future devices? Or at least allow assigning some other action to it? And it's not very easily accessible after all where it is located now imo.

    Thoughts?

Yes but it's far from handy compared to using the on screen buttons or the handsfree controls

I use it for media pause and for voice control. I can do both if those things by feel, which can't be done with the touch screen.

To me it's useful cause I don't have to unlock my phone just to pause the music.

I like having it. I use it for all of the above reasons. I want more physical key shortcuts!

I use it constantly to pause music while my phone is in my pocket or holster.

I think those that use their BlackBerry for work and join conference calls often would tend to use it more. I use it all the time.

I use it all the time for controlling media and sometimes for muting calls.

The only thing I'd do to make it even more useful is to code the double tap of the mute button to activate a shortcut menu to adjust the media vs notification sound levels. Also, this shortcut menu could also allow users the option of using the volume keys to move the cursor when you have a text entry field activated.
