Before BB10 launched everyone was up in arms over the icons. I have played with the Z10 quite a bit and I put a BB10 theme on my 9900. I have to say they look pretty good especially the color palette. I have to wonder if the original square icons looked good and photos just didn't do them justice. The only icon I really don't like is the games icon, the rest I find them easier to differentiate than on my playbook OS or OS7.

Icons are ok, but that shade thing behind the icons/text? That is just hideous. I put a black background the other day to see what it would be like without it; HUGE improvement. They need to get rid of it ASAP

Maybe that's why I like the BB10 theme on my 9900 it does not have that grey box backgroud behind the icons. Now I am thinking I am going to miss themes when I get my BB 10.

I think, like everything, there should be a choice in if you want the shadow or not. For an extremely light background, I think the shadow would help your eyes a lot.

never seen the icons live. The screenshots do not look great. The grey surround shading is just not the best way to do that, I think.

I have no issues with them. Some of the wallpapers out there actually help mask the shadows and make the icons look much better.

not a fan of the grey translucent border/shadow either, but still better than what they looked like before. I run a real dark wallpaper to somewhat hide them. love the folders, definitely an improvement over the PB. though, I've always liked stacked icons.

Not a huge fan of the grey shadow behind the icons but it's not a deal breaker and I don't even really notice it anymore when using my z10

TBH, I like the grey surround, they look like mini Z10s on screen!

I like the backgrounds as well. They help the icon labels stand out regardless of the wallpaper you choose. I also like how they have a fade blend from dark to very light in the top corner.

The background on the app icons is not the best idea indeed however it is not something that bugs me. With the proper background you can make them less visible. They could definitely remove the background ( as an option perhaps? ) and also give you the ability to resize the app icon, not too sure if the latter is something doable within the limitations of the OS

Didn't like them at first, but they've really grown on me. They're simple but yet elegant, in my opinion.

The background is needed because not all the 3rd party app icons are the same size. Especially Android apps. Some are larger or smaller so the background helps to make everything look uniform while without the backgrounds it would start to look messy.

I still don't like the browser icon though. The one on the Playbook is much better and a few others I think I prefer the Playbook versions.

I have to say that, after immense reflection and numerous months of using the phone and seeing various screenshots, the icons are fine, but the gray shading is either fine or bad depending on the wallpaper. I think a more elegant solution could be devised, something that mimics the rest of the minimalistic feel of the OS. Menus and other icons in BlackBerry 10 are flat, clean, and elegant, but the app icons and grid feel out of place.

I guess the transparent shade is likable depending on your wallpaper. I love how they look against mine. Same with the transparent banner on the active frames.
