    Do you?

Are there implications to device performance? For example a little slower, a little hotter, poorer battery life?

Also, are there apps that dont work properly when you do that? I remember in the old BeBuzz, encrypted devices leads to bebuzz not working as it cant do different color LEDs or something. Not sure if this is still the case.

Also, when say photos are encrypted, you cant transfer them over to your PC at all. The only way is to use the BB software to transfer images to your USB while tethered.

    never would consider it.

I think the device might run a little slower. there will probably be other side effects also but i cant say for sure what the immediate impact would be

A encrypted device will be slower, as it will need to decrypt files to read them. Also if you don't decrypt the media before security wipe, you'll need to format said media card/storage as it'll be locked permanently

I had problems running some apps (like Dropbox) on my BB7 device was encryption enabled.
Also like the other posters have mentioned, you should expect a slight overhead of performance with encryption enabled.

I think for most people, assuming you don't have a SD card installed, a device password will be enough to protect your data) unless it's government kind of stuff you're storing ).

I believe with a device password, because your data is not encrypted, the person with your phone will need specialised tools to connect directly to the device's storage to bypass the security code.

Obviously if you have encryption enabled then the data will look like garbage.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Personally, I don't believe my data is important enough to encrypt - I'm really not hiding anything particularly secret on my device. I use a Simple Password to deter casual thieves, but that's about it.
