I remember back in BBOS days that when your text message conversations would reach a certain size it would start acting funny and slowed down.

Have any of you experienced the same in BB10? Do you delete convos or just let them keep building up?

I've let mine build up. Haven't run into any issues. The latest build seems to handle the hub even better than any previous os's

I have read people having issues before 10.2.1. I know in my own experience after the current update I haven't had problems.

I believe conversations are a key part of the smartphone experience. I was frustrated with the issues prior to 10.2.1.

I do maybe after a month. I don't know why I just like to keep the text hub clean.

There were numerous users having issues with text messages slowing down. Myself included, the text messages app was actually freezing up and going blank.

I didn't see the issue till I realised I had 4000 text messages.
Even now with a little over 500 text messages it'll load form the top/ first message and cascade down to the last.

Since everyone has BBM now I hardly use the text messages app.

But do a search on text messages you'll see the issues.

I use Exporter. This way I can keep important messages organized, and I can also keep my Hub clean.

I delete them periodically. If something is important enough to keep, it should be in an email. My text messages tend to have no lasting value... "Did you feed the fish?" "When will you be home?" "Where's my allowance?" and so on.

Why you text messages when you have BBM? With that said I clear mine often, no reason, just don't need them for any reason.

I delete mine every night before I go to sleep so I have a clean slate for the next day. Just a habit I started with my 7290.

Everybody can use text messages, for the vast majority of people in the UK it is free. How does BBM lure the texter?

Because most people (yes, I realize people here don't want to believe this) don't have BBM. Your friends/family might, but you have to realize most people in the world don't. I have 2 people I regularly/semi regularly BBM. They would prefer it if I didn't use BBM since they installed BBM on their phones just because I asked them to and they don't use it with anyone else. And I had more but they stopped using it after realizing how buggy it was and how it was missing features that Whatsapp had. If I tell people to install BBM, I'll get a "why don't YOU just use Whatsapp, LINE, WeChat, Viber, etc? Why should I change when things are much easier if you just use our program? If you don't want to use MY program, just text me. Why would I ever install a new app just to talk to one person when I can just text that person?"

It's pretty hypocritical to badger people into installing your chat program and refusing to install the one they want you to install.

As for the original question, seeing that I'm still on 10.1 I clear it whenever my phone bogs down.

Exactly. Even the few friends of mine that do own a BlackBerry device use SMS (except for when one of us is out of the country).

That would require people to text me in the first place. Besides, I never restore after an OS update, so they go away anyway.

You have to, any phone in any os with any amount of ram or processing power needs to have long threads of convos deleted. Very frustrating on 10.1 how some convos wouldn't even load if they were too long. Definitely fixed with 10.2, but always gotta delete every once in a while
