Has anyone been able to use old phones as DLNA media players? I have a couple of Z10 which I would like to use as media players.

Do you want a client or server? I know on my PlayBook I use Kalemsoft as a DLNA client to play content from my PC. My Z30 I use as a DLNA server for since its built in. I know the Z10 doesn't have this baked into the OS.

I have a dedicated hard drive as a DLNA server. I want to use an old Z10 connected to a my stereo as a client which I can control from my Passport.

I guess what I am asking is how do I set my Z10 as a DLNA renderer?

I'm pretty sure you will need to download a music player app that supports Dlna. I don't think the native one will act as a client.
But I could be wrong
Yea I think you're only options are Kalemsoft in BlackBerry World - it has a DLNA client - or sideload some android app, though I can't recommend any.
I have Kalemsoft on my PlayBook and it works great. I thought I'd get a free install on my Z30 but nope. As such I haven't bought it again. Then again I don't need it right now as I only using the DLNA server and play on feature of my phone.

I have Kalemsoft. It works great. Can you use the "play on" feature of your phone to send music to your PlayBook?

When I select play on I never see any options in the following screen.

Try upnp. I believe it will run on your z10, find your dlna server and allow you to choose a renderer out to play on.

Another vote for Kalemsoft. I bought it for both my Playbook and BB10 devices. Great app.
