I enjoy being able to download and install software without having dependencies on Google services, and have been able to get Firefox and Chrome browsers working on BB10 simply by downloading the APK file and installing it. Firefox works particularly well, and I suspect it's because Mozilla officially released a version of Firefox for Android that doesn't need Play integration. The only downside is that you have to manually install new versions of the app (big deal?)

Wouldn't it be great if we could strip out the Play integration from apps? Because it seems to degrade app performance when it is constantly trying to 'phone home' to the mothership.

The problem is that Google Service is so good and so wide that most Android developers are dependent on it.

Remove Google Services and many Android developers won't know how to code android apps anymore.
