Is there any app or work around for this? Something similar to android where you can turn off your data/internet connection.

It's a workaround I use, but in the battery saving mode settings, I specify to turn off data in that mode. I make sure that battery saving and Wifi are in the quick settings on the same view.

When home/on WiFi, I turn on battery saving and WiFi from quick settings. When away/need data, I turn off battery saving/Wifi. I find it easier than drilling down into mobile settings each time I want to toggle data.
