I stumbled on a tech video discussing the 'new' navigation drawer

They even use the word 'peek'.

Is Android stealing this from BB10?

Peek and flow are a big differentiation for BlackBerry.

You have always been able to peek into the notification drawer to see new emails, etc.

Zedi Master is right, it has been cribbed from BB10.

He's referring not to the notification drawers we all know and love, but this new featured added in June for developers to use, the navigation drawer (which all Google apps now use in KitKat), where you can swipe from the left bezel to view more options related to the app. For example, in the file manager that shows up in the browser, if you swipe from the left bezel, the navigation drawer opens up with options.

BB10 essentially uses the same UI paradigm, but instead this navigation drawer lies below the app rather than on top, so you access it by swiping the app to the right, revealing the 'navigation drawer' and options. As you can see below.

The three horizontal lines even change when the feature is active, which happens on Android too. The main difference though is on BB10 this feature is only available at the lowest level of an app (once you're swiped right to go back as much as possible), hence on BB10 you can only choose between Device and other forms of storage, whereas on Android you can call it up any time (which is why it has shortcuts like downloads, whereas on BB10 you just go to the downloads folder in the file manager).

But yeah, BB10 did it first. It's baked into so many elements of the OS, right down to the web browser where it's used for tab management as we know:

Actually if you pull the Back button to the right you can peek all the way back to the tabs. If you let go you loose your current place in the app. But if you are selecting a new tab your going to do that anyway.
