    Unlocking your Z10 would allow you to:
    - use another carrier's sim (can even get updates from other carriers as well - many users did this)
    - reduce roaming fees voice/data you would normally incur on trips (by purchasing a local sim at destination)
    - good selling point (if ever you decide to sell your device) as some users prefer unlocked phone, i.e one less thing to worry about.

    I don't know if this is true for BB10 devices, but I do remember Verizon changed to a nonlocked policy some years ago. I had a pay as you go Verizon feature phone back in 2005 when I had a contract in Denver, and when I moved back to Canada I found that Verizon wasn't locking their phones back then either. Problem was that Bell refused to activate on my home account cuz it wasn't from them. Canceled my Bell accounts (mobile and landline) and never went back.

    A question about unlocking. I have always unlocked my BB's when traveling to the States from Canada. With BIS, as soon as my Roger's sim card was out and AT&T sim in....BBM stopped working. If I unlock my Q10 and put in an AT&T card in...will I still have BBM since it is now associated with my BlackBerry I'D and not BIS? Thanks.

    Of you're on BB10 then yes, any SIM card with data will work. Not on BBOS though.
