I've just seen that 10.3.0.1418 passport files are named qc8974.factory_sfi*signed.bar, while 10.3.1.1154 are named qc8960.factory_sfi_hybrid_qc8974*signed.bar

Why ? Does this mean 10.3.1.1154 is not optimized for passport ?

Im running it on my passport , its probably a hybrid as there is no passport radio that came with the os

If I remember correctly, the difference between a 8960 and a 8974 OS is the bootloader/system partition (the ~10MB or so at the beginning). The rest (firmware, drivers, apps, libraries, scripts, etc.) is cross-platform for Qualcomm devices.

BlackBerry changed the names around for 10.3.1, for whatever reason.

The qc8960 is for most devices to date. Passport being the one that needs 8974.

The hybrid part is that the files are 99% identical. They have the same apps, the same OS, but only a different IFS (like a boot partition the does the first boot steps). That's only 10mb of the whole file.

Previously the OS was slightly different, so it had its own separate name. But the difference was just a few configuration files which gave been merged back so they only have one OS again. It's just that one small 10mb partition that's different between devices.

In 1949 this file was separate from the debrick, something we've seen for BlackBerry internal usage. If we had the 1949 ifs file for passport we could combine it with the rest of the debrick and have it working on passport. But we don't. Released OS is usually combined.

And of course the difference between core and debrick is the debrick files contain _desktop in the file name.
