WiFi connection reliability has been an issue on BB10 for quite a long time.

Internet connectivity is tested by pinging a BlackBerry web address. Unfortunately, that web address is about as reliable as Britain's rail infrastructure.

Clewley posted about it on his BBM Channels page yonks ago, but as far as I can tell it hasn't been properly addressed.

I still don't see a reason, perhaps there is one? to ping home to BB for wifi. Maybe for BB services? Can't they change that to something more reliable or make their own more reliable?

Loaded 10.3.1.1779 yesterday after having been made to wait 7 weeks since the original 10.3.1 launch date on 19th February and I've had only one issue. When the phone rebooted after the installation the numbers in the picture password were not responding properly to my gestures so it took about a minute to get into the phone. I then disabled the picture password and following some other minor issues with the phone responding to my gestures I rebooted and have not had any problems since. Use all of my aps without a problem.

All I have to do now is enable the picture password to make sure that's working and everything should be fine.

Z10 STL100-3 , official 10.3.1.2708 OS from Telus Canada - slower Wi-Fi performance with few disconnects. Usable, but worse compared to 10.2.x and previous 10.3.1.x leaks. Just to confirm the issue. Wait for small OS update.

Same here (Q10SQN100-3/10.3.1.2576). Wi-Fi works well. dBm rates didn't change after the updates. Tested on several routers, locations, ISP and on public hot-spot without a hitch.

If you have issue, the first thing to do is to check the logs. Go to Settings > Networks and Connections > Wi-Fi and tap the advanced button at the bottom (the 2 sliders thingy). Now, select Logs and check them (signal strength, disconnection reason, ...

I am still having problems with my wifi range/connection/dropping connection on my q5, running any 10.3 variant, all was perfect on 10.2

If I stand over the router I am getting about -60dbm, at the top of 12 stairs it has dropped to -75dbm and 4 steps further I loose connection, it never dropped anywhere in the house with 10.2

If it means anything to anyone or you have any ideas, I'd be very grateful. Or if you can point me in the direction of a website

No need to go further : you have obviously a signal strength problem. If you didn't see this issue with other devices, your phone has a big problem. At this rate, it sounds more hardware than software. Did you drop your phone recently or open it to change something ?

I can only advice you to use the warranty. Now, you can take a step further and try a 10.2.1 autoloader, check the logs again, only for the dBm values. If the same, you'll know for sure it's a hardware issue. If not, an autoloader to the last release may be able to correct a corrupted radio... (I really think it's hardware though)

    Hi, thanks for the reply

I haven't dropped my phone or opened it, I assume thephone is out of warranty as it is nearly 18 months old, but i'll check

I would actually like to get back to 10.2 out of curiosity to see if this fixes it as it was perfect until I did the update

You cant point me in the direction of a step by step guide to go from 10.3 to 10.2 can you?

If you have 10.2 Link backup:
    - 10.2 Autoloader > Link 10.2 restore

If you don't have 10.2 Link backup (10.3 backup can't be restored on 10.2)
    - Manual data backup > 10.2 Autoloader > Manual system setup

Try 10.2.2.1609 OS version, the best 10.2.x I have found in terms of battery life and signal reception. It's official BB10 OS release for regions of Europe.

No, it's not. It's Software. Why would so many people report with Wi-Fi connectivity issues otherwise? But you are right with what you mentioned about the autoloader to the last release being able to solve the issue. Let's not confuse the situation with Wi-Fi logs and everything. A new software release is the solution to the Wi-Fi connectivity issue. And by the way, I accidentally dropped my phone more than twice during 10.2.1 days and still Wi-Fi connected well.

Very interesting...but I have a different problem : All indications on my z10 tell me that the Wifi connection is fine...but obviously it's not. The browser isn't working and for instance Feedminder gives me the message " Your device thinks it has a internet connection, but we are not receiving any feeds". The problem always disappears after a few hours, but it frequently appears. There seems no reason for its appearance. It comes and goes.

You can't take a shortcut like that. Ho my, do you wonder how the world would spin today if medical doctor took so quick shortcut to cure their patients ? The more data, the better.

I've already help users through their logs, and I can tell you that this step is mandatory. There are several issues from WPA errors to router update that you can detect and correct. OP can test the hardware failure by doing the last step I wrote in my previous post. But As I say, I really think his issue is hardware. If you can share your logs, we can maybe find what's yours ?

    Hide your PIN !

Bad signal strength too. Where were you when you check the log ? Take the dBm while you're near your access point. The first thing you could try here is to deactivate the Wi-Fi N on your router. That said there is no "CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED" in the log. If you can, check just after you had an issue.

I've had this issue with all of the 10.3.1 updates. The limited WiFi Access bug as well. To me it seems like this is now the tradition of BlackBerry 10 OS haha! And there's no use complaining or being angry about certain issues. It's all falling onto deaf ears. Enjoy the new features! XD
