    Never compulsory, but strongly advised. Just in case something happens (user error or system glitch) and you need to restore, you will need the backup to do so.

    Never hurts to take a backup, but it is solely at your discretion. Depends on what you have on your device and how much of value it is to you.

    If you are going to back up your data: I would recommend doing it manually. If you back up using Link, you will find that if there are any issues with your OS, then they will be introduced to your fresh installation.

    Manual backups is simply copying photos from device storage & backing up app data from within each individual app.
