Worked well on a few apps I've tried.

BTW, did you mean to have decompile set to off by default?

I'd agree. Newest Beta is patching fine now. However I'm back to not being able to download a package even after adding the correct GSF to the Config ini file. Hmm...

Serious problem with encryption, Cobalt, Google security, Android.

Google Security is apparently blocking use of Android on my phone.

    1. I had Cobalt installed on Passport after clean install of 2789 on Passport. All was good and I installed a number of Android aps.
    2. THEN I turned on encryption. OMG. Cpu usage went to 30% on System. Stayed that way for 30 hours. Had to charge continuously. Would run down in couple of hours.
    3. THEN I uninstalled Cobalt stuff. CPU went back to normal BUT Android is killed. Nothing Android works - just get white screen.
    4. Now, with Android killed, I have a browser history like like this below about Google protecting my account.

Cobalt's official Google Apps landing page-img_20151028_031533.jpgCobalt's official Google Apps landing page-img_20151028_113156.jpgCobalt's official Google Apps landing page-img_20151028_113206.jpgCobalt's official Google Apps landing page-img_20151028_113214.jpg

Also messages about Google Security blocking apps.

I turned off the 'decompile resources' option by default because it is not really needed.

An APK archive is a ZIP container that carries the files needed to run the app. There are two important file types that we need for patching:
    1. classes.dex files, which contain the compiled code (decompiles to smali code)
    2. resources.arsc files, which contain the resources of the app (decompiles to strings, references, etc)

In most cases (98%) it is sufficient to decompile the classes.dex file, because usually we only want to change some lines in the smali code. Decompiling the resources.arsc file would only add complexity to the rebuilding process. Also, there is a risk that the resources do not recompile correctly. This can cause strings (text on the screen) to look weird (a good example are the Hub notifications in Play store).

    There are a few reasons though, where the resources.arsc must be decompiled. These reasons are;
    1. The app doesn't install correctly (the cause can be, that some references must be patched, very seldom)
    2. The app uses Google Maps API V1, which must be patched (very seldom)

In that case, the option should be turned on

In all other cases, the new default setting to OFF should be just ok.

I patched the Groupon app (com.groupon-4539.apk) with Play Services Patcher 1.4 beta 3. Running the patched app on my Z10STL100-3/10.3.2.2789, I observe the attached Google Play Services popup message. Furthermore, the app seems to be "stuck" after it displays it's splash screen. This occurs with "Decompile resources" either checked or unchecked. I updated framework each time. Patched with GMaps Patcher 1.3.1, the app works ok.

Do you have Google Play Store installed? I know that there is an internal check that is looking for Google Play Store beeing installed.

My patched Groupon now works as expected -- after I installed Google Play Store for BlackBerry 10 on my phone. FWIW, Groupon, patched by 1.3.1, worked as expected with only Cobalt-patched Google Play Services 8.1.0.5 on my phone (i.e., Play Store apparently was not required). Thank you.

Updating the local framework is only required if moving from 1.3.1 to 1.4 or back.

You can avoid that if you copy the file apktool.jar from the lib folder of 1.4 to th lib folder on 1.3.1. There will be no compatibility issues.

If you have a gsf id you should be able to connect. Is your mobile data in the android runtime turned on? Download the settings app and check if it is turned on.

Hello Cobalt, Beta4 is working as well although I'm still not able to download packages through the patcher. Also, I've noticed the ability to resize and hide ad banners is no longer an option?? Bummer.
