I believe it will be security patches only. Honestly doubt if art will be updated at all.
I read in an article (I don't remember where) that there will be also improvements for some apps, including Facebook. I'm not sure if it was true...

I think it will be dead in the nearly future...

We might see some updates to BlackBerry apps if we're really lucky, but it's mostly going to be minor improvements -- nothing significant. We almost certainly won't see any big changes to the Android runtime.

The official statement on the BlackBerry website says two releases with security and privacy enhancements. They have also stated that there are no plans to enhance the Android runtime. That said the latest update that was pushed to my Leap improved Android application performance quite a bit, at the expense of not being able to remove Android applications. I've reported that bug and they are working on it, but since I don't have much churn in the Android applications I have on my phone I'm enjoying the improvement.
As a software developer I can tell you that when we have a meeting the word enhancement means something completely different than a maintenance update, which is different from a security patch.
Chen's recent statement indicated what one of the security enhancements was, and that it is to allow government and high security enterprises to use BB10 in specific applications.
I can see why the press insists on down selling what BlackBerry says, but really don't understand why the BlackBerry user community does it as well. But many people on CB tend to put BlackBerry statements in their own words and use diminutives. You are really better off watching the CB news section for notice of BlackBerry's statements, reading or watching the original source, and making up your own mind.

Seems like its going to be stuck with the Android Jellybean runtime witn no enhancements to BBOS 10. Just security patches. How can there be when most of the BB10 dev team has been laid-off. It sucks! I know, by z30 is getting tired and i don't want a PP or a Priv. What to do, what to do!
I would take a hard look at upcoming Vienna seems like the only hope of device in near future .
The Vienna is almost certainly Android, isn't it? In any case, it seems like the Bb's absolute priority is to get current versions of Android on the Priv and the upcoming devices to show they have some competence.

Passport SE: All the snooty prestige of a device with a precious metal in the name at less than half the price!
Same here. I had to roll back to .2813 to uninstall a couple of applications, but I then accepted the .2876 runtime back, because Android apps seem to open faster, thus fewer wait/close events. I don't think we can expect major updates to it, but even small optimizations are appreciated. With luck, we'll soon get an update that fixes the uninstall problem.
Yeah, because the Vienna seems to run Android. Just like the Passport seemed to run Android when it was leaked.

Was it the Onion?
The "current release" of the Android player will continue to be supported, according to their developer blog, so it'll probably remain exactly at the current player's capabilities
