    It certainly seems that way:

"At CES 2016, BlackBerry has been busy discussing self-driving cars, global carrier support for PRIV and consumer healthcare apps. But as we shift our energies toward all these exciting opportunities, does that mean the BlackBerry 10 operating system is dead? Far from it." -- John Chen

    100% agree.

Relax guys, Chen said BB10 will still be "supported". ie: releasing an occasional update here and there.

    Here's his quote:
Consumer and enterprise fans of our workhorse BlackBerry 10 smartphones such as Passport, Classic and others can look forward to many security and privacy enhancements in 2016. The coming version 10.3.3 will be certified for NIAP compliance, meaning it will have passed the strictest government-grade security tests, enabling us to further support our government and regulated customers who use BlackBerry 10 devices and demand the highest levels of security. We are also planning a version 10.3.4 for later this year with even more security improvements.

It is long past time to trust anything Chen says. A better bet would be to assume the opposite.

The only thing to trust is that he wants to be a software company.

BlackBerry and Chen should invest in BlackBerry10 on the software side, not on the hardware side.

We all know, that there are limited resources with BlackBerry10, so they should focus on one BlackBerry10 device per year.

In my impression, the passport has been the most successful one, so they should develop and refine it and release a passport 2 with a even bigger battery and other nice features!!

BlackBerry 10 may not be going away. It would seem as though that would depend on the success of BlackBerry powered by Android devices.

If they really want to be successful they may want to bring out an all touch device next.

Should these devices do well, we may see another BB10 device.

Does anyone remember the time William Shatner was on SNL and told Trekkies to get a life? People were outraged.

I think it would be great if Chen did a sketch on SNL and kept trying to let people down easy but then he keeps reading CB and finally has enough and gets on the podium and says "BB10 is dead!! Stop trying to see the glass half full. Go get a Google phone! Get a Sony for all I care but leave me alone! Get a life! I hate BlackBerry! I hate technology! Except for that chick who interviewed me about the Priv. She was great!"

"No BB10 device in 2017,18,19. And just because I didn't say 20 doesn't mean there will be another device then either. Software updates are for government only and they won't help you run Google! If you want to install Grinder get a Sony!.

    Thank you. I'm John Chen"

Anyone who thinks that a smartphone company that makes less than 5 million units per year can fully support two completely different mobile operating systems deserves what they get. Remember, the is the guy who went with the "Classic" as his first smartphone launch. As long as it works, it's not dead.

    Guys...

BlackBerry is out with an Android device and it's trying to support it as much as it can (it's not so much, hey it's BlackBerry and you all know that BB's not so good in promoting anything).

Anyway we all know BlackBerry and John Chen: every time he speaks we wonder why he was not shut up, every message from BlackBerry the firm, is strategically misleading: we are committed to BB10, no we're not... but hey, wait... yes we are!

They don't know what do do because Priv is out and they bet a lot on it but it's not taking off. They hope in the future but the future it not certain. So they can't even say they want BlackBerry10 to be alive because it's a misleading message for eveybody willing to buy a Priv... at this time BB10 is the internal competitor for Android and viceversa!

So at the end of the line: a year is looooong: by the end of the year possibly things are changed in a way or in another and we'll see the future for BlackBerry10: all I can say is that they throw out an Android device in few months so they actually CAN put BlackBerry10 up to date in less time than you think, if only they want to.

We just have to wait because if the handset division will close (if they fail to sell more than 4 or 5 milions units) they only remain with BlackBerry10 doing NIAP compliance...

What about the next possibility : BlackBerry is not releasing a new BlackBerry 10 device, but they will improve the ecosystem and after 1 year they can release a new BlackBerry 10 device with the best OS and the best ecosystem.

Don't worry folks, your device will continue to function as it is currently. I would however recommend that you purchase the Evolution browser from BBW, as the native one (for me) is running into issues.

Chen's 'commitment' to BB10 for one reason, and one reason only, as BlackBerry still has a Passport SE inventory that they need to shift.

Supporting BB10 is a given since there are some corporate clients that use BB10 phones. But this is similar to what BB did to OS7 (and they are still supporting it because of corporate clients)

A few minutes later, Little Red Riding Hood knocked on the door. Chen jumped into bed and pulled the covers over his nose. "Who is it?" he called in a cackly voice. "It's me, Little Red Riding Hood," she answered. "Come in, my dear," Chen answered. Little Red Riding Hood opened the door and entered the room. "Grandma, what big Androids you have."
